Q: I have a balanced million dollar portfolio holding as many as 30 equities at a time. Currently I would like to hold all positions however hesitate to do so because of your stated advice that 20 to 25 holdings is optimal. My question is two parts:
1. Am I correct that that is your position, and if so, why?
2. If I were to liquidate five or more of my positions, which for one reason or another at this time I would like to hold all, how might I decide which to liquidate and which to hold? Thanks for the great service, Daniel
Just as a follow up to David's question today about building a simple index etf portfolio. I noticed you did not recommend any ex North America exposure. I thought the mantra was 1/3 equity Canada 1/3 u.s and 1/3 outside NA.
Q: Despite your recent comment that Knight is likely in no hurry to invest it's $600M plus
cash, the share price is on a roll and hitting 52 week highs. Is this excitement over the former Paladin executive joining the team, mitigating any health risk that Mr. Goodman may encounter or just enthusiasm for their big bank account pre-election anticipating the possible emergence of bargains depending on who wins? Thanks.
Q: In your latest article in the Financial Post "5 Things To Worry Investors", you mention seeing some stocks jump on earnings releases even though revenue and profit were lower than last year. Which stocks in the Balance equity portfolio would fit this description?
Q: ABT: recommended in latest 5i email: I read the description of it's business and it was like reading a foreign language - I am not a technology person at all and do not buy companies I do not understand; so, please educate me.TTM PE 23, FPE 270, make no or very little money, ROE 0, CF .23, and pays a healthy dividend. I currently hold no technology other than DH if it qualifies?
Q: I will have to withdraw RIF funds in fall of 2017. Have approximately 10% of RIF in cash at the moment and am considering the etf VGH. Would like your input as to whether this is a good time to buy or if you have a different suggestion. Also, have telcoms and utilities. Is it time to sell them?
Thanks for your help
Q: I hold ENB,FTS,WSP in my RRSP. Should I keep FTS and/or WSP or diversify into other sectors.
If so which companies would you recommend that have a dividend.

Q: Would you please give your analysis of Clearwater and High Liner regarding growth, debt level, dividend growth, etc.and which you would recommend for a 1 to 2 year hold and why. Thanx.
Q: Hi,
Could you recommend the best and simplest way to build a well balanced portfolio for a passive long term investor? Would it be etfs? If so could you recommend the ones you think (possibly 3-5)? They would be held in a TFSA and added to annually to maximize tfsa room and DRIPS would be used whenever possible.
Q: What are your thoughts on INTC today? Its growth prospects and what you like or don't like about INTC. Also, where would you rank INTC compared with other large tech companies (to form a one of the tech investments in a portfolio diversified across all sectors)? Thanks!
Q: Today Enbridge Inc. (ENB) announced they are purchasing Spectra Energy Corp (SE) in an all stock deal.
I own Enbridge in my non-registered account (in order to take advantage of Canadian Dividend Tax Credit) and I own Spectra in my US $ RRSP (in order to minimize taxes on US dividends which are treated like interest income).
I want to participate in both the Canadian and US energy infrastructure (pipeline, midstream processing) market.
My question is what can I replace Spectra Energy in my RRSP with? I own Kinder Morgan (underwater), Oneok (above water) and recently sold off Williams (too much drama) in the RRSP account.
Am I better off to sell Spectra now or wait for the Enbridge merger and then sell off the Enbridge or even keep Enbridge in my RRSP as a US holding. Or do I increase my holding(s) in Kinder Morgan or Oneok?
Q: You noted that Cipher "is in a bit of a proxy battle and we like John Mull, a 37% owner trying to improve the company." But isn't Mr. Mull effectively seeking to take control of the company - which presents the risk of it being taken private at no significant premium to shareholders?
Q: What is with this company they are now starting to get buy recommendations. Earlier this year they were at 2008 levels then took off the same as this year. With no buy recommendations in 2008 or first part of 2016. Is this a buy, sell or hold if already owned.
This is the 3rd time I am asking the same question since last Thursday. Would you please let me know if it is worth holding on to this company. I have gone from 11K to 2 k but I don't want to go to zero although I don't need the money for another 5-10 years. What is the best option here...just let go or hang on? My only reason for staying this long hasn't really worked but would it work if I just look the other way for another 5 years. Hope you get this question and get a chance to answer me. The stock is down another 3.5% today. Thank you!
Q: Thanks for all the great info on so many companies. Here is a crystal ball question for you.
Below are 2 groups of up and coming growing companies. Group 1 has market caps below 500M whereas Group 2 has higher market caps of roughly 1-5B.
Group 1: SYZ, CRH, ADW-A, SIS, TNC.
Group 2: KXS, SH, PLI, GUD, BYD-UN, PBH, NFI, TOY.
I am trying to get a feel of which companies have the potential to grow significantly over the next 5 years or so because of the quality and increasing demand for their products/services. Based on your knowledge, could you indicate which companies in each of these 2 groups are most likely to double (or more) their market caps in the next 5 plus years. And perhaps indicate the least likely candidates to do so.
Q: Hi Peter, Ryan, and 5i Team
Let myself get stuck with some LSI shares.
Would you please share an updated opinion regarding the recent
financial release, and possible future potential.
Thank you
