Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I currently own LUG and AGI, and am looking to add.

My reasoning follows. Both companies just announced stellar financial and production results. LUG's average 2024 sale price/oz was $2462, while AGI's was $2379. Given that gold is now trading above $2900 and providing it stays within +/- $100 for the entirety of 2025, cash flow at both companies is going to rise substantially.

Two questions:

1. Would you be comfortable adding to a position in these names at this time?

2. Do you have a preference between LUG and AGI?

Thanks as always for your expertise.

Q: In process of rebalancing growth leaning portfolios, so for the Communications sector, what would be your top five or six "must own" holdings, any market in this sector. Currently I have a notional 6% allocation to sector and small positions in GOOG, SIXG (FIVG), NBIS, and Telus. At a 3.6% position I have room to grow and looking for ideas.

Q: Hi Peter, I have 100 shares of BCE both in my RRSP and TFSA accounts both at a loss of course. I've been using it as income. Would it be wise to sell and buy back after a month my break even point is around 47.00 and 49.00. If you would replace what are some stocks that could replace BCE. Thanks

Q: I am seeing higher yields on HISA ETFs vs bond ETFs. Is this right? If so--it seems like unless you want to bet on bonds going up, HISAs are the better option right now for conservative money. What do you think?

Q: Thank you for your recent counsel on Trump tariff vulnerable stocks in my portfolio { Sold TFII for $186.50 before the earnings disaster . Bought it for $43 } Woo Hoo ! 5i rocks ! ....

I'd like a little clarification if possible .... In a question this morning on WSP and tariffs, 5i's response was " could be vulnerable to buy American " . When I asked the same question the response was " should be okay " .... Could you clarify ? As I really believe Trump is going to do what he said ..... If it's vulnerable it will be sold ....... Thanks for your terrific service ......

Q: My mortgage is coming due at a much higher rate than it has been for the past 5 years, so given the current economic uncertainty, I’ve decided to sell half of my unregistered portfolio to pay it off. I understand this will incur tax, and I’m prepared for that. Here are my holdings—please advise on the optimal order of selling to ensure the remaining portfolio is defensive, particularly against tariffs and economic uncertainty. I'm open to the cheese slicer method across some or all stocks. Please deduct credits as you see fit. Thank you!

Q: For precious metals exposure I hold the above. I have been frustrated with BTO and was wondering if there might be a couple of mid-tier producers with a gold bias that you could suggest as a replacement.

Q: Hello 5i
Thank for your detailed reply to my question re: QQQI. As a follow up question, can you give me an indication of how much variability is in the dividend and what would cause this.?
IE: In a large market decline the fund will still decline a lot but it will pay a healthy dividend while I wait or maybe it won’t?
Thank you so much!
Dave

Q: I sold my individual dividend stocks and am replacing them with an ETF for simplicity. How would you rate/compare these dividendETFS? Which two do you prefer? I'll put 1 in my rrsp and a another in my TFSA. I am diversified in other countries already. I'm thinking XDIV and XEI might be the safest?
