Q: I am negative on MDA but not greatly so. MDA represents 2.3% weighting in my portfolio. I have owned MDA for years - likely from when you first reported on the stock so I guess you might call me a patient investor.

I believe you are against averaging down and you seem to be suggesting a share issue is likely. Right now MDA seems to be yielding 2.25%. Three questions...
1) Looking into your crystal ball do you think the dividend is safe?
2) Do you think the probability of the share dilution is priced into the current share price?
3) I am thinking of buying more shares now to increase my weighting to 3.3%. Should I wait until the new shares are issued?

I will be adding a little bit of new money into my portfolio this month and am looking to either purchase another full position or 2 half positions. Q: After the close today a legal firm put out a warning that Tricon had not paid a fair price for their latest acquisition. Would these pertain to tricon or more to do with the management of the company that they acquired? How can this be unfair, don't the share holders have to vote on the deal for it to go through?

Q: These are the only 2 stocks I own in roughly equal portions of $41,000.00 each in my TFSA.
I am looking at selling equal amounts of each stock to buy another equally weighted stock.
I prefer small caps with a 5%+ yield and good growth potential for long term hold. DRIP if possible.
Would you name 3 stocks which you think may be suitable. Thanks

Q: Hi Peter,

Due to some poor planning on my part, I ended up putting some high growth stocks (i.e. SHOP, PHO, HWO, CRH) in my non-registered account, while my TFSA has most of the stocks in the balanced portfolio. Should anything be done to shift the stocks, or should I just stay the course?

Q: Peter, I have a sector balanced portfolio which is doing very well thanks to 5i.
In energy, I have considerable losses which are as follows:

TOU down 34% today’s value 60K
PEY down 26% today’s value 8K
VET down 11% today’s value 10K
PPY down 14% today’s value 14K
WCP down 2% today’s value 30K

My holdings in PKI are up over 55% and exceed the total value of the energy producing companies above.

Since my sector allocation is appropriate, would you suggest making any changes?

Q: I wonder if you had a chance to listen to the conference call and if it added anything to your assessment of the company? I think the current share price ($3.40-3.50) is not necessarily a screaming bargain but if they execute well, then they ought to see significant share price appreciation over the course of the next few years. The company seems to be in the right place and the growth opportunities seem quite substantial.

Q: Just as a follow up to Guy's question today mentioning 3 different memberships. Can you please expand on what other memberships 5i offers and where to seek out more information on them?

I notice that ET is halted pending news and that today is the Q3 conference call - at least they say it is on the website. Just out of curiosity, how long does the average c.c. last? Having never listened to one I have no idea if there even is an average. Just curious.....

As I watch several investments plumb new lows, it strikes me that things may have turned and I am unaware.

We have seen 5i exit some names that were originally intended for 5 year hold but today I have to say my investment measurements are lacking when it comes to exit signs.
In some cases, I would get out as the stock price breaks the uptrend but have been ignoring this giving some space for volatility.
Given my experience in finding stock prices equal to zero in my portfolio, I would rather buy stocks that go up.
How does an investor distinguish between a stock going to zero versus one that is just doing the volatility dance and on a temporary path to a short lived low price?

I would rather not be found holding companies indicating 40%, 60% and 80% losses going forward.

Your thoughts on this are appreciated.
