Q: Is now a good time to increase my position in Spin Master, or wait until earnings are announced on March 13, as you mentioned in another answer?

Investment Q&A
Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.
Q: What are the consensus revenue and earnings for Spin Master for their March reporting? Do you have an inkling on the impact of record Xmas sales vs. some returns for Hatchimals on the earnings? It's a 3% holding so I'm trying to gauge the present risk vs. Reward.
Q: I bought TOY mid-November and it has been on a steady decline since. I do understand the "issues" with the hatchimals but would have figured it to at least steady itself or even start to bounce back. Should i consider taking my lumps and sell at this point?
Q: Hello, I took a 1/2 position in TOY back in November at the peak, and I am currently down 20%. I was wondering if you felt that for a 3 year hold, if I take another 1/2 position that this would make sense at this time?
Q: Hi 5i
Have you noticed a '5i Effect'? As an example AIF was at 29.77 Janary 25 and you announced addition to BE portfolio Jan 26. Since then it has gained 9%. I noticed similar reaction on TOY.
Is your subscriber base large enough that we move stocks when you recommend them? Or is it just good timing on your part?
Thanks again

Q: Hi, I need to pull some money out of my TFSA and would love your thoughts on what to sell. I'm looking at TOY, NFI, and EIF as my "flatliners" (I haven't had them long). Do you have advice about which to drop, or perhaps they'll all shine in the end so I should just trim each one? I will be able to buy back mid-year. Thanks!

Q: Hi,
Are any of these companies likely to be affected by Trumps border tax? Also, could you rate your favourites of the above companies. I'm a medium risk investor.

Q: Hi, Spin Master was clawing its way back up in past 2 weeks, but again took a hit today morning. Down 5% !! Is the same class action news causing this ? I have a full position. Results are still several weeks away. should I be worried ? Thanks
Q: Hello 5i Team,
Is it too early to wonder if the "story" is changing since you last issued your opinion on the company in September 2016?
Thanks,
Antoine

Q: Does Mattel's financial results release offer any insight into Spin Master Toys? Mattel says they were impacted by a significant US toy category slowdown. How would one know if these poor results were specific to a company or an industry? Spin Master is a long term hold regardless as I have confidence with their strategy, especially using evergreen entertainment properties as a setup to sell children toys and branded products. I don't think Mattel has developed this strength.
Q: There was a brief mention on a news channel last evening about a class action suit concerning the malfunctioning of some of Spin Master's Hatchimals. Any comments? Perhaps this was just a slow news night....!
Q: Did you ever hear about what percentage of the Hatchimals were defective? The share price seems to have stabilized and is on an apparent upward trend.

Q: hello 5i I am repositioning my TFSA and my wife's,the total amount is 80,000 can you suggest stocks and weighting
Q: TOY continues to get hammered. Do you not think all the negatives over problems related to their big hit for Christmas will do lasting damage? Isn't their reputation on the line? Will retail stores still be eager to stock their products after all the trouble they have seen with their quality control?

Q: Starting a TFSA and have narrowed down a larger list of 10-12 stocks to these four. Still doing research on each of these, but I was wondering if you thought this was a good mix for a TFSA, while adding different sectors as the years progress.
Thanks,
Jason

Q: I appreciate all of 5I's recent comments on Spin Master, and I think for the most part I would guess that you're right, however I would like to weigh in here on the company.
I'm not sure I agree wholeheartedly on your positive stance of the company right now. How many toys are we talking about? This is what I can't determine. Is it .001% of total sales, or are we looking at 10% of total sales.
It's "media hype" only if the percentage is very small, and the stories are being exaggerated.
It would seem more like institutional failure, on the other hand, if the percentage is an appreciable number. Where is quality control in all of this? You would think that with such an important launch that all the Ps and Qs had been attended to. It makes me nervous that this wasn't done; and it makes me wary of the management. It speaks of an inexperienced team trying to do too much too soon.
I suppose in the end, what determines whether to stay or go, is to determine if we are talking about only "1 or 2 toys" ... or if we are talking about a company which is running before it can walk.
Your comments on this would be most appreciated.
I am a holder, and hold still, but am concerned that maybe this little fiasco of theirs is revealing that we may have bought a pig in a poke.
Thank you.

Q: Hi, with reference to a previous question, Spin Master's website is very much up and running. https://www.spinmaster.com
In fact, I had a chance to review consumers' comments as well as Spin Master replies on their facebook page. Looks like, most issues revolve around users unable to follow instructions, as specified. There were also a number of comments from users who were finally able to operate the toy after following recommended you tube video.
It appears that the highly interactive nature of the toy got many by surprise.
On a side note, one of the popular Interactive version of Barbie doll (Mattel) also faced issues with error messages.
I was able to add to my position, taking advantage of drop in share price, yesterday.

Q: I have a half position in TOY should I complete full position at this level after company's latest buzz on its products
