Q: Good Morning All,
I have cash from profit-taking in resources and I'm looking at ABT, ITP,SIS,CCL.B, or ZCL. All had some pull-back and pay a decent dividend. Your thoughts please. Many thanks for your excellent service. Bob.

Q: Good morning,

With sells as it was going up, I am still about breakeven on CRH but it has dropped to 1% of my portfolio. I have lost confidence such that I won't put more in. I am, however, looking for additional healthcare exposure. Right now I am also holding JNJ (3%) Danaher (DHR, 4%) which is mostly medical/dental since the spin-off of Fortive. I have been thinking of exiting JNJ due to the price that they paid for their latest acquisition. It seems a little inconsistent with their historically very conservative nature.

Would you think that adding a 2.5-3% SIS or GUD is a better approach, or should I keep CRH given its longer term potential? I prefer to not watch my investments every day and have a diversified portfolio across market cap and Canada/US with a lot of multinational companies (like CCL in Canada and UL in the US, for instance).

Do you have any perspective on the JNJ acquisition? If so, please feel free to deduct two questions.

Thanks!

Derek

Q: I am doing a little cleanup of my losing positions. I have small "leftover" of BDI, HNL, AIM and PD which all seems to be dead money right now but I wonder if one of these companies could bounce back (BDI for exemple is trading at 0.3x book value) ?

Can you suggest a couple of good companies to replace these losers?

Thanks again for your good advice and use as many credits as needed!

Q: What would be your top 5 dividend stocks (excluding banks & resources)which are presently undervalued based on their most recent earnings and would have the highest potential growth in the next 12 to 18 months. Thanks

Q: Could you please recommend some small/mid cap stocks with good growth prospects, a reasonable valuation and insider ownership that you would be comfortable taking a position in at this time. I am interested in PKI and GUD if you feel those fit the above criteria but I am also interested in you input on any others. Thanks! - Rob

Q: Re: Aug.25/17 comment from Bob on SIS big volume. This is where Technical Analysis/Stock Charts may play a role looking forward & backward combining the fundamentals. The stock has corrected roughly 30% from a high of 17.55 to its current low of 12.04. Simple charting platforms such as Moving Averages-Bollinger Bands-Relative Strength Index-MACD might of helped to find a bottom & choose an entry point.Could you tell us the size of the block trade & the price.
This could tell you where institutions are prepared to take a stand. The stock looks somewhat clean now & may return to its upward momentum. Regards: Ken

Q: SIS has sharply declined from its peak of $17.55 in late May.It is priced to perfection. After miss of expected EPS the last 2 Qs(May by 0.01 & Aug 0.05(0.07 vs 0.12 expected),investors are very unforgiving in this climate(eg geopolitical,Trump, seasonally weak period-mid July to mid Oct,talks of big correction & high valuation) despite 2 good US earnings period & slow & steady growth in economy.Look at similar negative impact on KXS & CGX.On the flip side, see PBH & SHOP.SIS was top pick of 5I on 3/3/16 @ $5.85 & 5/16/16 @ $7.99.I am now looking for an entry point,so please advise what is the catalyst(s) for a turnaround. Thanks for u normal great views & services.

Q: I was watching "This Old House" on PBS last night. They featured a Savaria lift which they installed for a wheel chair bound person. The elevator appeared well designed, simple to construct and worked well. Thought you might be interested.

By the way, unlike Dave, I have made a pile of money by following 5i Research recommendations. I note PBH hit a new high yesterday. (My main contribution to stock management is my ability to procrastinate instead of panic selling!)

Q: While working at buying into 5i investment methodology - invest long enough to see profits grow and stock prices to follow - I find my 5i sourced holdings negatively hitting my portfolio value.

I have to ask, what is the role of 5i and its methodology in preserving capital and/or helping to avoid investment losses?

In reading 5i answers, it is often noted that stocks need 5 years yet I am starting to see this as a way to avoid sell recommendations.
I read from you, HR is a good investment for income so I hold with a profit only to now see a price decline and profits change to losses.
I read from you, CGX was sold from 5i portfolio "but does not need to be sold". Now we are down substantially.

When you write, a stock is expensive, the stock is already up +% in the year, should this be taken that even though you write you are okay with a buy, a smart investor will not purchase as this time - decline is likely. Many of the stocks I have purchased with positive inference from 5i, are now down 20% (sometimes in one day).

I write this as I must determine where 5i fits in investment efforts. My 5i Stock losses have mounted through the past couple months. I need to find a way to interpret when 5i sentiment toward a stock really changes and not wait until the stock is slowly backed away from by 5i.

So, how does one differentiate between, a good Buy recommendation and 5i being positive on a stock but there is a great likelihood the stock price will decline? I am not please with reading positive remarks only to see investment profits disappear or losing 20% within days of a purchase.

Is there something in your words that should be interpreted to help me protect my gains and Capital and/or avoid losses within days of buying a recommended investment?

Thanks
Dave
