Q: Good morning 5i.
My daughter (43) holds the following in her TFSA: AYA'B. AYA, BEP.UN, BNS, ECN/EFN, ENB, ENGH, GUD, PKI, SIS, WSP. She has ~10K to add this year. Could you suggest 2 new growth/dividend stocks and your thoughts re adding to AYA and/or BNS?
Thanks for the great help you provide.

Q: Please share your analysis for Fossil Group Inc, thanks.
Q: Any update on softwood lumber agreements? What are your thoughts on ADN and WEF? I hold a smidge of each and have been waiting to add to positions.
Q: I've held AMTD for around 4 years and it done quite well for me. I hold it in a LIRA which I will have to start drawing on in two, years. What are your thoughts on the stock? If I sell it I would probably look at buying something more conservative like a fixed income ETF?
Q: Hi Team:
My 21 year old son is looking to invest his $5,500 2017 TFSA contribution into 2 growth stocks. Which 2 would be top of your list today given his young age and long time horizon.
Many thanks
Scott

Q: Hi 5i: Thanks for answering my question about the cyclical and non-cyclical stocks, and also for identifying the Discretionary/Staples categorization (which I also found puzzling). The only stock in the balanced portfolio that I thought I knew how to classify was Magna - I believe Peter once explained it was discretionary not industrial, as one might think. You did not list this one in your response. Does that mean that MG has been re-classified? AS I said in my question, I find this categorization class a real puzzle.
Q: A new round of rate reset preferreds supposedly will be hitting the market sometime in the next few months. Thoughts please on picking up some in our cash account. We currently have about 15% of our total portfolio in preferreds (POW,TD, ALA, AIMIA, GEI, & CPX) We are conservative investors in retirement without the need for income.
Thanks,
Ted

Q: I am looking at moving a significant chunk of our retirement money into either/both the Tangerine Equity Growth Portfolio and the Tangerine Balanced Growth Portfolio in an attempt to follow the 'one fund solution'. What are your thoughts and are there alternative index funds you think may be a better bet. This is my first question (membership was a Christmas prezzie from my dad)!

Q: It has been suggested to me that a high percentage of one's investments should be made outside Canada as this is what most pension funds do since Canada is such a small part of the world's capitalisation. Do you concur with this belief re investing? In Canada, in particular, and in the US, to a lesser degree, I have a wealth of information about specific companies. In the rest of the world it is difficult to obtain good information and to buy except through ADR's. Thus my best way to invest is through Mutual Funds or ETF's. It seems to me when I look into Global ETF's that none that I could find matched the long term performance of MAW150. Since I tend to hold an investment for a long period of time, short term fluctuations in value are of little concern. My biggest concerns are the MER of 1.74% per annum and the possibility that Mawer will not match future performance with past performance. Is there an ETF that has a good track record or a different Mutual with a low MER that matches or beats MAW150? If MAW150 is the best, then based on your response, I may purchase up to 25% of my assets in it. With this change in asset mix approximately 50% of investments will be outside of Canada. Thank you. I value your opinion very much.

Q: I have a half position (2.5%) in EXE,CHR,AAR.UN and WCP. In a reasonably well diversified portfolio. I have enough cash to bring two stocks to a full position.
Should I pick two? Can you rank them in order?
Or should I add a bit to each? (More trading fees).
Or hold the cash for a couple of months to see how the markets are doing?

Q: Good Day Gentlemen. Several months ago I started accumulating shares of Harte Gold. I like the project since the President is Stephan Roman Jr. His father was instrumental in developing Elliot Lake and by all accounts was a legend in the business. As such and in step with family tradition, Stephen Jr. has been very prolific in the Canadian mining scene as well. He currently owns 38M shares of Harte and he is the guy running the show. Recently some major players i.e. JJ Capital and Appian Resources have bought substantial positions. I began acquiring the stock at .06 six months ago. The stock is now trading at the .30 range. I love the story and based on my calculations if they define 3M ozs it will move higher. I understand that Peter spent time at Sprott so he would have contacts in the industry that understand projects. Harte is now mining on a temporary license and has free cash flow. They have a deal with Barrick to process the ore in Hemlo. They are about to obtain a mining license etc. They are showing good results in terms of exploration notwithstanding they are cash flow positive on the ore body already defined and being mined. I am not in a hurry to get a response but would appreciate some thoughts on this. Thank you. I appreciate the service and thank you for your insight. Regards

Q: I'm seeking your view in regards to my grand kids RESP's. One is now 11 and the other is 16. I have been fully contributing over the years and using a growth with small div selection method. I have good 20% plus returns overall. Last year was very good. ECI,ENF,BRE, SIA,DIV, AND CHE.UN are equally weighted holdings. As the older one approaches graduation should I be starting to ease up on stocks and using forward years contributions more on ETF's and less risk oriented holdings. I cannot really bring myself to using bonds at this time. I do want to protect what I have gained for him.Something like a ZUT,or ZPR for this year as opposed to another stock perhaps. Thanks as always guys
Q: Hi Peter
There a few gloomy predictors in the US predicting a very serous correction due to the very high margin debt it seems to be getting a bit of ink .
Do you have any comment on the subject of margin debt?
Kind regards
Stan

Q: I have some Stella Jones at a 30% profit. I would like to sell and invest in wsp for a 2 to 3 year hold. Given the recent weakness and outlook for Stella Jones woould you recommend this strategy for future growth and stability? Thanx.
Q: SJ is currently the only holding I have categorized as materials. I have about a 10 year time frame. If I wanted to hold only one materials company, would a switch to MX make sense given its better momentum and dividend? Thank you.
Q: I have a smallm position and was looking at adding more.Where do you see cwx going in the future and will the proposed lumber tariffs affect cwx. Do you think the dividend is safe.
