Q: I was a latecomer to learn about 5iResearch so alot of your stock picks in the model portfolios had grown too high for me to jump in on and put together a proper plan. I was wondering, with so many new stocks coming on the market since 2013, will you be putting together any new model portfolios with lower entry prices for members who were late to the party? You provide a wonderful service and I am enjoying learning from everyone's questions. Thanks so much.

I'm not sure if this has been asked before but I was wondering if it's better to buy US stocks with Canadian cash or transfer the Canadian cash to US then buy. I have a questrade account and was looking at buying some US options.

Q: You recently provided the short position on chesswood “813,000 shares; 7% of the share float.”
As well it seems the short position question comes up with some regularity.
Can you provide some insight how as an investor I should interpret short positions.
For example I have no idea if chesswoods short position is good, bad or neutral.

Q: Regarding Sanjay's question about moving a Canadian stock to the U.S. side in order to keep the dividend in U.S. $, is this the only way to go about it? And if one wants to sell the stock later in CDN $, then have it moved back? Or would you just specify the currency on the trade order (or would that incur FEX fees)?

Q: You have noted that sector weakness is a factor in the decline in this equity due to long term factors weakening the oil price. Two questions - I) how much of our sector weakness is due to the price differential suffered by Canadian operators from the inability to get their product to world markets, and ii) while in the long run oil pricing may weaken for the reasons stated, the current situation - both short and medium term - appear likely to support the price of oil, perhaps as a minimum, Can you comment please.

Q: Hi, I have opened an RESP account with 5K for initial deposit, and will also be contributing $150 on a monthly basis. I don't plan to do a withdraw from this account for about 10 years. I am new to investment world and am curious on strategy or what would be best to invest in. I am not afraid of risk. Thanks in advance for your advice/opinion.

Q: Canada Goose has been criticized for its use of down, fur and wool by PETA and other sources, and there are lots of questions on the internet about their treatment of animals. Do you consider their transparency standard for ethical sourcing and use of the products "ethical enough" to withstand any public concerns and ad campaigns against it? If so, do you still consider it is a good buy at $65? They are opening 6 new stores this fall so they must feel confident. Thanks for your valued opinion on this.

Q: Good morning - I have watched CIBC with interest recently as I am a long term investor and have positions with most of the Canadian banks. Earlier this week, analysts were forecasting muted returns for CIBC and indeed this turned out to be accurate. The bank narrowly missed projections and offered a downbeat view of the rest of the year. No surprised there.

What perplexes me is why the shares went up the day before the earnings report then dropped so dramatically yesterday. This, in spite of the fact the news was not unexpected. Yes, growth is going to be modest but who exactly was buying the day before and who was rushing to sell yesterday? Surely it's not small investors like me who are likely more prone to panic but if it's institutional money managers why the rush of selling? Surely they could read the obvious tea leaves. Is this program trading or just one of those mysteries of market life?

Q: I understand that soon cannabis edibles will be legal in Canada.
I believe this will bigger than smoking the stuff.
( I enjoy a cookie much more than filling my lungs with smoke).
I betcha the big cookie companies are high on getting into this.
Are there any companies, large or small, that one could invest in or is it too early?

Q: Hi Peter

every quarter they highlight growing sales and EBITDA, but it never translates to the bottom line

profit is flat

what is wrong with the company, that growth never comes out the bottom line?

also with 59% of revenue from the USA, why does it need to have currency hedges to protect itself from rising material costs priced in US dollars? --that should be a natural hedge

most quarters (except last one) those hedges are a drag on profits

and now they hedge interest rates too !!
