Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I noticed you said that you have to wait 30 days to rebuy suncor after selling it for tax-loss. Is it the same for declaring profits? If i sell a growth stock for a profit, but rebuy it the next day, do i have to declare it?

Q: I asked about the pros and cons of this investment and it caused an error message.
I'm 68 and have little fixed income.
In an effort to be more clear this is a preferred and pays about 8%.
I'm adding a paragraph from a Baron's article hoping to clear up any confusion.

Newly issued preferred stock from Qurate Retail, the top home-shopping business controlled by media mogul John Malone, offers investors a lofty yield of more than 8%.

The preferred (ticker: QRTEP) has an 8% annual dividend and a maturity in 2031, and it finished Friday at $94.12, up $2.37. The preferred trades at a discount to its face value of $100. This results in a current yield of around 8.5% and a yield to maturity of about 8.75%.

Q: Greetings to all,

We wish to increase our Emerging market holdings within our RRSP account
and note that the 10 year chart has traded between $50 and $30. The yield at the moment is about 2.8%.

Q1: Therefore what kind of holding is VWO, growth or income? I suspect neither.
Q2: Is there an emerging market ETF out there with a generally ascending 10 year chart line?

Cheers!

Q: I hope I know the answer but I want to make sure. I'm already at this years limit for my TFSA. However, within my TFSA I'm getting dividends that I want to use to buy new shares. I want to confirm that that is OK. I also want to confirm that if I buy stocks with the dividends that I can buy a stock that is not already within my TFSA.

Q: My International exposure has been identified as deficient. After reading the Q&A the above ETF's have been identified. My question is would the above as a50/50 split provide good international diversification or would adding another ETF help. If another is needed what would be your choice, and how would you divide the positions eg. 1/3's
Thank you,
Mike
