Q: Hi Peter and Team
I am retired and have only "passive" income in my company investment portfolio but hold an overweight in financials (>35%) such as GWO
With the new budget proposals, I am considering reducing my high dividend financials and purchasing non dividend companies that have a better growth profile, especially after last month's downturn.
Can you suggest 3 positions that I might consider after trimming the positions in my banks and financials??
Your advice as always appreciated
Peter

Q: Hello,

My question is on Intermap Technologies. The company had issues with their former CEO and a failed contract which landed them into debt. A new CEO has taken over since Sept 2017. The company looks to be turning a corner with increasing revenue Y/Y and they are now generating positive cash flow. The past two quarters they have earned 11c EPS USD (7c Q3, 4c Q4). They company is trading less than 5x these two quarters. Company has 220M in NOL, plus I believe their combine tangable and Intangible assets are at least equal to long term (Interest free) debt and other liabilities.

I like the fact the company has a low share count of approx 16 so any good news could make this stock jump quickly. However, the volume and lack of interest concerns me.

Can I please have your thoughts on this company and why the "the street" is ignoring them?

Thank you! I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,
Michael

Q: In spite of a climate of increasing interest rates, Canadian reset prefs prices are falling while CPD seems to be holding its own. Could you give me some insight into this. Would you continue to hold , increase or decrease position in Canadian reset prefs.

Q: Hi, In case the WGL deal fails, holders of subscription receipts will receive full amount of $31 ( Not $31 less the dividend equivalents already received, as mentioned in your recent response). Could you please clarify. Thanks
Here is the January 25, 2017 press release:
" In the event such notice has not been delivered prior to September 4, 2018 or if the Acquisition is terminated prior to such time, or AltaGas advises the underwriters or discloses to the public that it does not intend to proceed with the Acquisition, then the Escrow Agent and AltaGas will return to each holder of Subscription Receipts an amount equal to the aggregate issue price of such holder's Subscription Receipts, plus any unpaid Dividend Equivalent Payments owing to such holders of Subscription Receipts (the "Termination Payment"). The Termination Payment will be made from the balance of the Escrowed Funds at the Termination Time, including from any remaining interest on the Escrowed Funds. If the balance of the Escrowed Funds, together with any such interest, is insufficient to cover the full amount of the Termination Payment, AltaGas will pay to the holders of Subscription Receipts any difference."

Q: Full position in forestry sector to invest which would you select SJ or WEF. Both have had good years and seem to be pulling back. I know you guys tend to avoid market timing but I need to ask if you have a good entry point price for each. I loosely follow your balanced growth portfolio ( lean towards SJ) but am not against a bit more growth with WEF. Balanced equity transitioning from a more growth portfolio 3-5 year outlook, high risk tolerance.

Q: News of RRX announcing Strategic Review Process announced today. Last time the company was in play the shares traded between $10-12 but no buyer was found. At this point in time, what are your thoughts for a reasonable takeover valuation. 8x 2018 cash flow minus debt?
