Q: I've done quite well with SHOP, having bought this in mid 2022 in the high $30's. It has grown to over 7% of my account.

1) Do you think it can still reach/exceed its old highs from 2021? Wouldn't that make it one of the largest companies (by market cap) on the TSX?
2) What the maximum weighting you would hold in SHOP?

Q: Greetings:
In the December issue of CMS Norm Rothery picked his 10 stingy stocks. The above 3 have gone down continually since, to almost the 52 week low. Please give your opinion as to why the refiners are getting hit so hard. I realize that all energy stocks are in a slump, but not to this extent. Have the crack spreads narrowed ? and or what other reasons. Your analysis please?

Q: Good morning, how harmful would 25% tarrifs be to Evertz? I am guessing most of their competitors are US based firms and their US sales are pretty significant.

Q: Interesting potential entry point below $35 CAD today. 11.4% yield usually a sign of a dividend cut in the near future. I know the company has communicated that it intends to maintain and not grow the dividend over the next year.

What’s your take on the risk to the share price of a dividend cut at current price levels? Ie. is it mostly priced in here at $35?

Just getting ready to transfer funds from my cash account to my TFSA. I currently have a portion of LMN and KXS in a cash account. I have a larger cap gain in LMN. Which of the two do you feel would be best to move
Into a TFSA. I have the room to move an entire amount of either, but not both.

Or is this a coin toss? The cap gain isn’t much, so really doesn’t matter in the long term. As both have run some in the last month, the decision isn’t as easy as it was when KXS was laboring. Thx

Q: I am a senior citizen now with a lower tolerance for risk and accepting of a lower rate of return on my investments for that. When interest rates increased, I invested in MM funds; now with rates going south, I am looking to get back into some more conservative stocks/ETF/Mutual funds with growth prospects.
Can you provide 5 stocks/ETF's you believe would fill this request. I am looking at Canadian but if there isa US one that makes sense, I would look at it.

Q: As an income focused investor, I'm most worried about cashflow versus capital. This approach has allowed me to comfortably weather the gyrations over the past few years. Yes, dividend stocks went down, but my cashflow was mostly secure and I slept well. I've settled on a mix of funds and individual stocks that meet my cashflow needs, using 5i for research and advice. About 20% of the portfolio value is in Covered Call funds across various sectors and fund companies, which pay 7% to 17%. This has enabled me to boost my average portfolio yield significantly, while 80% of the portfolio is in more conservative dividend paying investments. I acknowledge that the Covered Call strategy limits my upside.

Two questions: 1. What are your thoughts on this approach? 2. Is there still a robust covered call marketplace in a declining market - ie: what happens to the covered call premium opportunity?

Q: A significant portion of my portfolio is allocated to SPY and QQQ. When i feel a need to hedge what are the pro's and con's of Shorting (using inverse etfs) as opposed to just selling the SPY and QQQ positions.
I'm not trying to sidestep a routine pullback (< 10%) it is more the corrections (10 to 20%) or Crash scenario's that i'm wanting to protect against.

Q: I currently hold the above investments in my non-registered account and will invest some additional funds before the end of the year. My plan is to top up my investments in approximately 8 stocks and 1 ETF. The investments will be a 5 to 10 year hold. Please provide a ranking for the top 10 stocks in my non-registered account. This question is prompted by concern I felt upon seeing portfolio consists almost entirely of growth companies, few dividend payers, and no bond holdings. After reading the notes, articles and opinions of several financial analysts and investment gurus, I gather:
— that “value investing” has not worked for the past decade; and
— that now however is the time for investors to adopt a Value-centric approach.
Do you agree with this sentiment? If yes, does 5i have screens (or links to them) of US-listed companies whose share prices have declined more than fundamentals justify AND whose prospects for share price appreciation look good going forward ?

Additionally, IF, and *ONLY IF*, you believe “value’s time has come” do you have a US-listed value-oriented ETF that you care to recommend? I reviewed these two ETFs: ILCV and VLUE. Do you like either one? If yes, do you prefer one over the other? Or do you have other suggestions? Thanks! :ao: sab

Q: Two part question:
You are often asked to suggest 5 companies for a TFSA or for growth and are consistent in suggesting names like CLBT, TVK and NBIS. My question today would be for you to introduce five high growth companies that you are watching but not recommending from the US market. Can you please list companies that excite you but have not yet been mentioned here?
As part two, can you state what you like about each company AND what you are watching for before actively recommending? Take 2 or 3 credits or whatever is needed to provide a comprehensive answer please.

Q: Happy holidays to all of you guys and girls at 5i thank you for all that you do everyday throughout the year. Just looking ahead to add to one of these 3 etf’s is there any one of these etf’s that should be chosen first before the other 2 or is it worthwhile just adding to all 3? All of these are about the same % of our portfolio and I do need to add more to international exposure (as per portfolio analytics.) Thanks again and wish everyone the best in the new year.
