Q: In reflecting on the next direction to place some funds I looked at the performance of the Russel 2000 fund in your growth portfolio. Then looked at some alternatives in the Vanguard family of US based small cap and Russel ETFs. Going more mid or small cap seems appealing but where would your preference lies or is it in the current ETF you hold in the growth portfolio?

Q: Greetings 5i team.

As follow-up to Grants Q of Nov 17, please go into more detail re: the substantial issuer bid LNF announced. It appears to put a floor on the downside through Dec 30th at 24.30 and caps the upside at 25.05. Is this correct? Are they doing this based on actual shares traded that we see, or do they intend to buy most of this through block transactions? The average daily traded shares do not appear to add up to the number they are trying to purchase.

Many thanks for your help.

Q: Any comments on DR as it has been going down steadily over the last couple of weeks. I've been trying to sell into the previous strength. My intent is to exit this position and I am prepared to just proceed but if this current weakness is tax loss selling or a fund exiting their position I would be prepared to wait for the new year. I've got about a 25% loss on my position.

Q: Good morning 5i,
I need some fixed income. And I am paralyzed by the low rates I see. when I think of fixed income i tend to think of security and not growth. I know there are a number of people who put all kinds of things in fixed income, from high risk bonds to preferred shares. Where would 5i fall on this question? I was wondering what you thought a suitable fixed income component might look like for a retired person? as you can see by the symbol I added in the title, I am thinking short term bonds. But, i am open to suggestion. Could you suggest some bond etf's for the US and for Canada that would be appropriate for our current situation?
thanks

Q: Hello Peter,
I know both companies operate in difference space, one ecommerce, other more in payment space. However, can you compare the valuations of both as i am having hard time understanding how shopify continues to defy odds where as Nvei just dips daily even though it produced great numbers. Is it being dragged down by PayPal being in same space. I have a 5 percent position in Nvei. Do you think that is too much for this type of company. I am mostly thinking of a 3 to 5 year hold. Thanks very much

Q: fyi
Question was asked where to park cash for short periods that is readily available. You suggested PSA ETF. Looked this up and I think the yield is .57%. EQ Bank (virtual) currently pays 1.25% calculated daily and is CDIC backed. Money can be transferred between EQ and your bank at any time (up to 3 days to clear). There are other high interest savings opportunities but for the past while, EQ has paid the highest rate.
