Q: Hello,

Long time holder of PKI and SPB. In the past I have watched PKI bounce around and jump up in price and then back down because earnings were weather related (good or bad) and/or input related (ie. contract spreads). Now with the recent price increase (very happy) is it because of their move into convenience stores or is their underlying profit seen to be more "permanent" than "transitory"? Does SPB carry similar characteristics as PKI so that under the right circumstances, they could see a large price increase as well?

Thanks,

Robert

Q: In a well balanced portfolio that is similar to the 5iR Balanced Portfolio, both BYD.un and PKI have increased in portfolio weighting from the initial investment positions. I recall 5iR saying to keep SIS less than 4.5%. For BYD.un and PKI, what would you suggest be the upper limit for the portfolio weighting of each of these two position?.......and thanks for these position recommendations.....Tom

Q: Just to clarify a recent Q&A regarding Parkland that someone mentioned that they almost sold PKI because "Andrew McCreath was shorting it at about $33, except for your reassuring comments.". In his monthly update, McCreath mentions "Parkland has been among the fund's largest positions this year and remains a core holding." Believe it is still worth holding for further upside. Thought it would be helpful if there was any confusion. Of course, as you mentioned, fund managers can change their view at any time and one should not solely invest one managers bullish/bearish viewpoint.

Q: Hi Peter, Ryan & Co.,
I bought PKI about 5 yrs ago, and it's done very well for me. I am a bit disappointed, however, with the rather slow dividend growth (this is the reason I bought it). As you noted, it's payout ratio is only 35%. So now I'm debating whether or not I should sell my position and invest in something else with a higher, growing yield, or wait in the hopes that PKI will be a bit more generous to its shareholders. What do think? Is the company hoarding cash for a specific purpose, or can I expect dividend increases in the future? Thanks,
Brian

Q: I have a question that may be of interest to some of your subscribers who, like me, are relative novices at investment. I've been reviewing my portfolio -- specifically Payout Ratios (I'm using Morningstar data, so there may be some variance when compared to other reporting agencies). I hold the following stocks with payout ratios beginning at 130%; however, two reach into multiple hundreds. VET and AQN are not included in your model portfolios, but ENB and PKI are in the 5i Balanced portfolio; CSH.UN, ECI, and ENB, again, in the 5i Income portfolio; and CLIQ in the 5i Growth portfolio. My question, quite simply, is: Why should we not be concerned about the stability of dividends from these companies? Thanks.
