Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: What options would you consider, as a moderate risk-tolerant investor for maximum return on an unexpected $40K windfall? This would be for at least a 2-3 year period in a non-registered account. Interest-paying vehicles are not preferred. Please provide your preferred strategy, specific names, and reasons.

Thanks so much for the invaluable service provided by 5i.

Q: Hi Team,
You now recommend selling Lspd . I am down 40% on the name. What stock should I then replace it with with the highest probability of getting my investment back? Would a switch into Shop be wise? Currently they seem to trade fairly equivalent. Thanks

I saw a chilling stat today that 20% of Canadian mortgages were taken on when rates were at the 1.5% floor. With mortgage rates at 5%+, and 40% of this debt rolling over, the hit to consumer spending promises to be spectacular.

Q: I tried to apply Chris White's 5 factors to PET however impossible as only been public for less that 1.5 years. That said, does 5i have an opinion on how investable PET is at this point? Personally I think with the PE of 25, increasing revenue and earnings (albeit short period), and a narrative that I think makes sense, I feel that it should have a bright future as I see a lot of stores going up.

Q: Can I have your thoughts on Nationial banks cash saver account (NBC100 series A) the interest rate is 3.25%. It has a one day purchase and redemption.
I also am an x TD waterhouse investment customer and moved all of my accounts to National Bank and couldn't happier! Got rid of TD insurance also. TD continually had their hand in my pocket. I will never do business with them again.

Q: Does this company look good at current prices? Or should one wait for a drop. I have already started a small position. It’s interesting to note that the company says that they recover the costs of opening a store within the first year..and they plan to open several stores within the next couple of years..looks like they can handle inflation..what are your thoughts. Thanks. Shyam
