Q: On 1/26 you stated that railway ties & utility poles demand are cyclical, but steady demand remain over the long term.Since its big drop in mid Jan,these are comments from 4 guests on BNN.1)strong support @ $38 2)A model price of $57.25 3)Echoing 5I's view, strong demand for railway ties & utility poles over long term.Poles in USA are past their useful life,so going to be constant demand, 4)Value managers had been doing work & finding there is value.5) Strong management 6)One guest bought on the drop. One nibbled away @ the position.Note that it has since stablised Is there any update since 1/26 & when it is reporting.Have 5I spoken to management recently. Is it within 5I's policy to contact management of companies.Appreciate u usual great services & views

Q: CN Rail announced their capital spending for next year and it seems that they will continue to spend on infrastructure improvements. I assume that SJ would get some of that business. My question is when SJ announced previously that revenue would be soft in 2017 would that have been based on CN decreasing their spending or is there really no way of assessing that? The stock currently has reacted much so I am thinking CN's announcement wasn't material (please excuse the pun) to SJ.

Q: I am just about to set up my portfolio. I am following your balanced equity portfolio. Most will be put into TFSA. I have to select about 6 to go in non registered. Obviously these would be the ones I would expect lower returns. Which ones should I select? I plan to keep not touch these investments for 8 years.

Q: 3 months ago I purchased full positions in engh, kbl, gil and sj as value plays looking for growth. My thought is to give the companies 2 years to get back on track. Do you still consider these good companies and do you think they will become good stocks within my 2 years time frame? Thank you

Q: Last week you suggested we wait to see how things settles out over a few days. What indicators are you looking for? - have they panned out. Can you comment on the reasons for the slow down and if it could a trend. My son and I own SJ - should we sell? We are on a 2 year timeline and 10 year timeline.
Thanks for your great work!

Q: I have some Stella Jones at a 30% profit. I would like to sell and invest in wsp for a 2 to 3 year hold. Given the recent weakness and outlook for Stella Jones woould you recommend this strategy for future growth and stability? Thanx.

Q: SJ is currently the only holding I have categorized as materials. I have about a 10 year time frame. If I wanted to hold only one materials company, would a switch to MX make sense given its better momentum and dividend? Thank you.

Q: I own SJ in a couple of portfolios. I am considering selling but do not want to sell until the stock settles, but thinking long term would it be best to move out of this stock into another stock in the same sector. One of the portfolios is a RESP with the funds being used in the next 3 to 4 years. The other portfolios have a much longer time frame. Your guidance is greatly appreciated.

Q: I currently hold these stocks in my TFSA. I want to max out my TFSA account for 2017. I have equal positions in all. Would you recommend to add to the exiting stocks or add a new stock(s) like SHOP, TOY, or KXS. Current holding are in the six figures. Thanks for your input.

Q: 5i Team:
thanks for all the help in 2016 !!.
The idea is to capture the electrification process of our society. It is a slow, but secure process/trend, in particular if use of electric cars increases, and robots and so on. This means more elect power will be required. Are Fortis (despite increase in interes rates) and Stella Jones good candidates ??. If not, are there other safe companies to capture the trend.
Also, if interest rates go up, would not ECI benefit more ?, as more people would preffer to rent than buy due to increase cost of capital.
thanks again ! Should I start buying now ?

Q: Joining 5i (and following your advice!) has been my best investment decision ever. Thanks for a wonderful service.

I'm planning to move one of Cineplex, Stantec, or Stella Jones from a RIFF to a TFSA, and am wondering which of the three you would think would be poised for greatest growth over the next few years.

Q: I am sensing that Stella Jones may suffer as a result of the very real possibility of NAFTA disputes under a Trump presidency. I note that the stock price has been moving south lately. I am considering sale of my SJ stock and using the funds to add to my holdings in GIL. I would appreciate your comments.
