Q: Team,
I hold both of these ( retired income investor) and wondered if you could add any comments with respect to each as a longer term hold for growth and dividend safety and are there any ther companies in this space that like better or just as well?

Q: Inflation is low and BOC rates are still at very low rates - money is cheap to get. IMHO the only place to make money is in the stock market, but seniors want low risk and for many decades placed money in high yielding low risk investments - GICs. Recently I applied for and received a 5 year closed mortgage at 2.49%, which means rates will stay low for at least five years. Our population is aging and that segment of investors like low risk, which leads to lower returns.

My question, when do you think or believe interest rates will rise to a new normal and therefore the stock market will see a competition for money from seniors? Therefore, by default lower returns in the stock market.

Q: Hi 5i,
A few days ago, in your most recent answer on a Callidus (CBL) question, you closed by saying:
“We think there will be more clarity in the next 30-60 days and with a 3% position, we would simply sit tight for the time being.”
This struck me as interesting because I was thinking was that a longer timeframe (more like 2+ quarters) would likely be required for the company to show sufficient progress in portfolio growth and (maybe more importantly) value realization to re-kindle sufficient interest to support a go-private transaction. But given your comment I’m wondering if I was missing an interim catalyst that might clarify their situation sooner. Can you say what made the shorter timeframe potentially significant in your view? Thanks!

Q: My biotech holdings include Celegene at 3% and alexion at 1.5%. I am looking to obtain a basket of these stocks, the best in your opinion, as opposed to getting the sector etf.
My question are as follows:
1. Do you feel now is an opportune time to be adding to biotech, or has the sector run up too far?
2. If the time is right, what would be your top complementary picks to my current positions ( mid cap to large cap) and how many should I hold? Please advise what an adequate overall portfolio position would be for the sector, for an investor with a palate for moderate risk and a long way term view.

Q: Good morning...thoughts on the Riocan news...I held RIOCAN for over 10 years and sold six months ago...I do not believe in retail REIT (for income) as a long term hold...I was interested though in the potential diversification away from retail...Do you think the capital appreciation will be there and potential growth in income...is it too early to jump back in? Thanks

Q: I own equal amounts of Veresen and Pembina. I do not want to double my shares in Pembina. Should I sell Veresen now (it is above the agreed selling price) or should I wait until the closing and sell off my additional Pembina shares at that time?

Q: My 20 year old son has started a stock portfolio and currently holds 11 stocks and will add a few a year. We are following your balanced portfolio. He was overweight energy and sold a position today on the recent bounce. He only holds TOY in the consumer area, MX in the materials area, and SIS in industrials. We are looking at adding in one of these three areas. Any suggestions? also holds SHOP, CLS, KXS, ALA, BNS, ECN, GUD.
