Q: What would be your choice or choices of an Canadian ETF to play commodities as some forcasters are suggesting we are later on in the cycle and commodities could do well?
Q: Hi 5i,
I'm a younger guy (mid 30s) who's fortunate enough to have saved hard and basically paid off my primary residence. I'm now looking to redeploy that equity through a credit line, which comes at a cost of prime + 0.5%. Our TFSAs are maxed (aligned with model BE/growth portfolios) and RRSP contributions are healthy, so I'm comfortable with our total equity exposure, but I would like a low-risk income-oriented holding in a new non-registered account that yields enough after tax to offset the cost of capital on the credit segment. Is there anything that comes to mind? Maybe a series of Prefs (neutralizes rate risk assiciated with this strategy) with a few high-yielding equities to bump up the overall yield?
Thanks for your help!

Q: I started an RESP for my granddaughter in May 2017 with equal weights of PBH, MX, BNS, SIS, KXS and ZCL. The total return of the RESP is 10% YTD. When ZCL had a poor earnings report in November 2017, I sold those shares and purchased ENB. Going forward, would you suggest any changes to the current holdings, and what would you purchase with new contribution money? My best wishes of the holiday season to the wonderful 5i staff, as well as all 5i members!
Q: Morning 5iResearch Team,

Q: Hi 5i team. I'm looking to distribute some of my mj profits. Do you still like sis. It's had a pretty good run lately. Are there other companies you like more. I still have mj investments so something a little safer but still with growth potential. I'm still 10yrs from retirement so time isn't that important. Thanks.
Q: Does TOY make most of their sales during the Christmas period? I am doing well on TOY (thanks to 5i) and while I am a long-term investor, I am wondering if you might be able to prepare me as to what the stock might do post Christmas. Does the share price reflect TOY as a year-round entity or has it possibly been bid up by investors that are mainly betting on next quarter's results, after which they would dump the stock?
Appreciate your insight.

Q: If we are to believe that history is our best teacher, what in your opinion, were the major factors that contributed to the Dow Jones Sell off in Aug 2015 and Jan 2016? Was it mainly global financial events re Greece and China? What are the best tools to monitor the events that could lead to a similar correction? Thanks for your wisdom. Q: Hi Peter,
Yesterday's announcement by NeuLion that they have reached a deal with Fortress Investment Group to sell certain DivX assets has resulted in the stock jumping about 25% today. The scuttlebutt is that they are trimming down to focus on opportunities involving their OTT technology, and possibly to make the company more saleable to a bigger player. Any thoughts on this, and might it be a good time to buy?
Thanks very much, and Happy Holidays!

Q: You have mentioned ICHR a couple of times as your favorite small cap in the US. Can you give me a few reasons why you like it. Is it a good long term hold. What are some of the risks. I see the valuation to be pretty cheap but I see Micron is very cheap as well based on their earnings. What do you think?
