Q: Hi 5i
Could you please tell me what would be the best 2-3 metrics to use in security analysis for each sector. I would like to focus in on the most important metrics for stocks within each sector. Thank you for all your advice.

Q: Goodmorning. What are your thoughts on this company i have owned it for over a year now at twelve dollars and have seen no share growth. It does pay a nice dividend. Would you continue to hold or suggest moving on as i would have thought it would be more of a growth company?? Thks for the great work

I have been starting to look into the energy sector as I think there will be a slow and steady increase in oil prices over the year (I think there will be dips back down but these dips will not be as low as the previous ones higher lows and higher highs as the year goes). What do you think of Vermilion energy? I look at the numbers and it seems to actually have a fairly large amount of debt (comparable to that of BTE on a total debt to capital ratio, although it hasn't had the bad press about its debt compared to BTE). It has a higher price to book. Management seems very good though and I like that it is diversified on a global scale and doesn't have its oil land locked in Alberta like many Canadian oil companies. What are your thoughts on the company? If you don't like it what energy names do you like better.

Q: Hi, CSU earned a lot of praise from analyst community (including 5i)after recent release of solid quarterly results. Most analysts upgraded company outlook and revised their ratings and price targets upwards. The stock responded very well and revisited $589, close to its last high reached in late 2015. However, it could not hold there and over past 10 days has returned to pre results level. I have a decent position and continue to own CSU for long term. But, with such wild fluctuations, I am interested in your comments on TA for the stock. It appears to have again moved into oversold territory with support at $525 and $500. Is the stock presenting another buying opportunity at current levels $525-$530? I know, Tech sector has sold off recently in US and Canada, but I guess there is no other specific reason for this price decline. Thanks

Q: Hello 5i team,
It's in times like these that I should have listened to you when you suggested to maintain an exposure to energy, gold and minerals (even though you exited FM); but to what do you attribute the recent (sudden) rally? I understand gold = uncertainty but lack of global growth (demand) would not suggest a surge in metals; as for oil, it seems we will always have an oversupply thanks to shale production.
I would appreciate your take on these issues,

Q: I read today that SSO has purchased Claude Resources, CRJ. The market seems to dislike this acquisition, any idea why? I've bought and sold SSO over the years (in fact I used to monitor this stock in our local newspaper for my father back In the 60's). What are some reasons for one stock to soar and the other to deflate following an acquisition? Thanks for everything!!

What are your thoughts on CG at this time? Would it be a buy currently (regardless of sector weighting). It was sitting on substantial cash reserves last year, do you know if this is still the case? Also are you aware of any political stability concerns with any of their operations.

A short time ago your comment was that you preferred gei over mullen transport. I own ipl and would appreciate as detailed a comparison of ipl & gei as your time permits. To my knowledge they are both midstream producers. Also, in your opinion which has the most upside in a changing market, and considering all metrics, which would you own. I await your learned opinion.

Q: I currently own these 2 series of preferred shares, I am up on both, it was the high yield that attracted me,knowing at the time that it was almost a binary outcome, rolled the dice. I feel that at the end of the day that the Feds will give them some more money ( I personally don't think that the government should fund such companies) my question is what is the worst case scenario if they get these funds? in other words how much more time does this buy BBD. and their ability to fund their debt obligations. I sometimes feel like a fly being drawn into the light with the attraction of the high yield

Q: Healthy 92 year old has enough monthly income from pensions and old age securities to cover all long term care costs and needs. Additionally has 6-7 digits of cash that we are wondering what to do with in order to preserve capital and have some growth. Thoughts on 1-3 year corporate bond ladder, a bond etf or any other suggestions for stocks or anything else?

Q: A recent answer pointed out that tax losses can be carried forward indefinitely. If tax losses are carried forward from a previous year, they do not reduce income until after the OAP clawback has been calculated. If you have stocks that have become worthless, don't write them off until you have some capital gains to offset them, in the same year.

Q: I currently hold small position in Itp and thinking of adding to it in my Tsfa. Is there another stock you would recommend in this sector.
