Q: I have a note from you wrt to CPD so am aware of its rate reset properties - which should be positive in the anticipated rising rate environment. However, I have not followed prefs before and wondered how they might perform should we get a significantly negative equity market, and - additionally - whether the managed version might do significantly better in those circumstances. Appreciate your opinion. Thanks.

Q: I have no gold in any of my 3 portfolios. I feel that I should have gold exposure. Could you recommend a stock that I could hold for the rest of this year. I would like to see some dividends with a gold stock.

Q: Hello 5i team. I'm new here.
With volatility perhaps increasing soon, but not wanting to be entirely out of the market for next 100 days, which U.S etf, would you recommend, ZPW(put write), ZWH(covered call), ZLU(low volatility)or other ?

Q: Hi Team,

I have the following Allocation:
08% Growth Portfolio
17% Balanced (Model Portfolio)
45% Income Portfolio

This makes a current 70% in Canadian Companies and 30% in cash. The Stocks are held in RRSP portfolio, and I would like to put the remaining 30% into Non_Canadian Dividend/Growth Income area. Can you recommend which ETF's might be able to round out the remaining 30% for me?

Q: Hi 5i,
My partner and I are 60 yrs. old, both newly retired with no pensions. 50% of our portfolio is in banks (one in the US), the rest in renewables and the occasional tech stock.
We are thinking with Mr. Trump now in office, we should probably look at gold. Presently we have no gold, even though I see comments that 4-6% of your portfolio should be in gold. What would you suggest for us? Stocks, bullion? If stocks, which ones and percentage of each would be valuable.

Thank you!

Q: Hi 5I Team,
My question is regarding US ETFs. Could you list some well balanced US ETFs that could do well under a Trump presidency? And if you had to only pick 1 of these ETFs to invest in, which would it be?

Thank you.

Q: I'm looking for dividend growth ETFs for diversification (e.g. VGG, VGH) .. can you suggest how to do that but without having companies like MONSANTO, MACDONALDS, PEPSI AND COKE in the mix? thanks

Q: In a reply to Elizabeth about suggested well diversified ETFs in a non-taxable account question, (posted morning of Jan 20th), you mention that HXT avoids a dividend tax liability by increasing its NAV rather than distributing dividends to shareholders. Wouldn't the Dividend Tax Credit look after the issue - or is there something about ETFs that doesn't make dividends eligible for the credit ?

Q: I am interested in beefing up the fixed income portion of my portfolio. My adviser recommends PMO005. I see a MER of 1.39%. What do you think of this mutual fund? Are there similar ETF's at a lower MER. I know you don't usually like Mutual funds but your commentary in the questions and answers seems good on Pimco. Should I diversify fixed income into several bond funds? If so could recommend a few of your favourites please. Thank you for your great service.

Q: What etf (or more than one) do you like to cover the broad Canadian market? There are so many, and they are so overweight in financials and resources. I would be most interested in one that has a lot of holdings, but welcome your opinion/advice if you think a smaller holding is more appropriate. This is for a non-registered account, so tax-deductible investment ideas are welcome.

Q: I asked this question several hours ago but did not get a response.I don't know if you respond the same day...so I am asking again. I have a non-registered account and would like to buy an eTF that is Canadian in content, to reap possible tax benefits. Can you recommend one that holds many stocks. There are so many - it is really hard to pick the one that holds the most stocks representative of all sectors. Or do you feel an S&P/TSX EFT holding just 60 is the way to go? Thank you.
