Q: Dear 5i,
I am interested in buying a Canadian stock that sells carbon credits. I believe LCFS sells carbon credits but is a small cap and the price has been trending dramatically down since their IPO over a year ago. In your opinion, does this company have substance for a patient investor willing to hold a maximum 2% postition in a TFSA? What do you think would be an attractive entry price?

Q: I couldn't resist this dividend machine and picked it up in Dec'22. I know there's a lot of factors involved (oil prices/shareholder payouts/production costs/depletion/new plant & equipment etc.) but in the current environment it appears to me that they'll be cash flow positive enough to eliminate their meager debt this year and then some. Do you have any idea what the cash flow forecast is for Gear this year and how it is derived (i.e. various components)?
In summary, do you think a return of capital is likely?

Q: How does one determine if an alternative investment company is legit and determine the level of risk with the investment. My daughter has been looking at bequest legacy investing. They have a legacy fund that invests in commercial real estate, performing loans and energy that provides 10% cash flow and gives you your investment back after two years if you choose or you can stay invested. Are you familiar with this company?

Q: Hello 5i
I am up $10,000 in the above companies and with 35 others I am up $125,000 in total in a $1,000,000 portfolio. Previously before the downturn I was up $800,000. I am a 77 year old value investor with a good pension.
Question: Should I take the $125,000 off the table, put it in an Oaken savings account at 3.4% and leave the rest invested?
thank you
Stanley

Q: Peter,

Recently I believe you referred to Credit Suisse as being a “basket case” for some time. How would a layman pick up on this type of thing. Please expand.

Thank you

Paul

Q: In feb/22 Td made an offer to purchase Fhn (who at THAT time had 55 B in loans and 75B in deposits) for 13 B or $25 a share
At that time U.S. 10 year treasuries were about 40 pts above the 2 year and the U.S. prime rate was 3.25%.
On Mar 17 Fhn was trading at $14.93 down from $21.93 a week ago and the 2 year treasury is now .57pts ABOVE the the 10 year while the U.S. prime rate is now 6.70%
Looks like investors believe Td may back out and or Fhn is losing a lot of deposits.
Meanwhile UBS has made on offer Toi purchase Credit Suisse currently valued at 8 b Euros for 1 B’
Would it not be better for Td to back out of the offer, pay a penalty and use the funds to purchase shares in Charles Schwab at a much lower price then what Td sold them for or offer to purchase Fhn at a much lower price after a NEW risk assessment is done on FHN assets
