Q: About 25% of our portfolio is in US stocks - very tech heavy (APPS, CRWD, MSFT, MTTR, NVDA, QCOM, TEAM, U) with only XYL as a non-tech holding. I would like to add GOOG, BKNG but would prefer not to transfer more CD$ to US just at the moment. Would appreciate your thoughts on cashing my XYL (down about 10%) in order to buy GOOG ?
Also, my NVDA and QCOM are at about 4.5% each of total CD/US $ portfolio, with good profit. Would you trim a bit of both to invest in BKNG or leave well enough alone for now !

Q: Hello team 5i,

I know very well that when a stock is sold with a loss, it must not be bought back before one month for the loss to be used as a tax loss.

But what if a stock is sold with a gain and then bought back before one month and this time it is sold with a loss. (Note that one month did not pass between the gain and the loss). Is this loss usable as a tax loss?

I donated shares of a company that was delisted to my broker. How can this loss be used for tax purposes? Is it different from an ordinary loss?

Q: I recall you saying that in past market corrections there were quality companies trading at or below cash value. Are there any at, or close, to that right now? If so could you please post a few within 20% of their cash value that look very solid a few years out?

I am low on energy and pipelines, as ENB.TO is my only holding in this sector. Most of the available cash I have on hand is in a US dollar RSP account, which I do not have to convert to a RIF for another 4 years. I've listed some stocks that have my attention, and wonder if it is reasonable to purchase now, as they're mostly at new 52 week highs, except OGS and VZ. Do you think these will still have room for further gains, or am I essentially too late and taking a risk these will roll over quickly as we inch closer to a US recession? Are there others you would prefer that aren't listed and any of the above that would be higher risk in this market environment? Take the appropriate points for the multiple questions. Q: In today's Wall Street Journal (Heard on the Street column), it suggested that one of the consequences of the blocking of Russian Central Bank reserves is that governments may rethink their position that US dollar or all money as an asset and will likely increase their gold holdings in a material way as the only true store of value.
If this is a trend then gold and gold shares should make great investments.

Q: I'm confused, because I've received two T5008 (statement of securities transactions) forms in relation to two stocks moved from one registered account (RIF) to another (TFSA) . All withdrawals from RIF (including the value of these stocks) are included in my income for 2021.

Q: Hello. I don't understand what happened with these stocks. I'd held almost a full position on hr.un for about a year. A couple of months ago they made some kind of move and I was awarded pmz.un stocks. Suddenly I showed about a 20% loss on my hr.un holdings which is pretty well equal to the current value of my PMZ holding. I'm wondering if I should sell both and re-invest in better real estate stocks or sell one or the other and put all the proceeds into just one of these companies? Thanks.
