Q: Hello 5i
Would you please offer thoughts on Sylogist given we seem to be in a price decline phase - starting with an uptrend break in Sept-16?
Sure feels more than just drifting when a stock falls so hard in a single day. The charts (1&5 yr) are showing a technically broken-down stock not firmly in a downdraft. Am I being lulled to sleep with 5i positive tone and 5 year hypothical viewpoint - when I should really be taking action to protect my Capital?

Q: Hello, I've just opened an RESP for my son and it has $2500 in it and should see $2500 added to it each year plus the gov't portion. Looking at a time frame of about 18-20 years, can you recommend an initial approach? Would a couple ETF's be best for now? or is it better to work toward the income model portfolio? or a few good dividend paying equities for the long term? Thank you.

Q: Greetings 5i, first off, thank you for this unique and valuable service. I'm looking to remove my two... shall we say laggards from the portfolio. Three questions;

For Potash, portfolio holds about 3.4%. Is there an upside to waiting short term until the Agrium deal closes? If replaced, I want something in the same sector. What is your top two dividend payers in this sector?

For Cenovus, portfolio holds about 2.4%, I would like to replace with either utility, consumer discretionary or healthcare. What are your top three, dividend paying suggestions.

And what is your top financial dividend payer?

Q: I am looking for your top 10 picks from all the 70 companies that you currently hold in your 3 current portfolios. Growth. Income and Balanced Portfolios. Using todays prices which 10 companies out of 70 in your 3 portfolios would you suggest for immediate purchase ?. I have funds to invest today for a 2 year hold. Thanks a lot & best wishes. Q: Hello 5i team,
I hold in the materials sector Chemtrade Logistics, Methanex and Stella Jones; I'm thinking of selling CHE to buy a position in base metals
1. Is there any momentum left after the huge run up?
2. Nevsun has not participated in the run-up; wonder why
3. What 3 would you recommend, in order of preference
4. How about an ETF such as XBM or ZMT?

Q: Regarding Bill's RRSP transfer to Questrade from a brokerage, the main issue of selling the investments to reinvest the funds is the tax implication. The sold RRSPs would be taxed, likely at 25%, and depending upon his RRSP contribution limit, he might not be able to reinvest the net sum. The RRSP amount would be included in his taxable income for the year of withdrawal and if large enough would "bump" him into a higher tax bracket. He would pay tax on the withdrawal at his marginal rate.

As you suggested, the transfer in kind is the only way to make this transfer without incurring any tax.

Q: Financials are currently at about 18% of my equity portfolio i.e., about 3% above target. I am thinking of trimming back on one of TD, RY or POW. Would you agree with a slight trim and which one would you suggest?

Q: I have a question about in which sector BCE resides. According to TMX group, BCE is in communication services, while according to another website, sectorspdr.com, telecommunication companies are lumped into the technology sector ETF that goes by the symbol XLK (http://www.sectorspdr.com/sectorspdr/sector/xlk). Do telecommunication companies comprise their own sector, or should I also consider them part of the technology sector? Thanks for reading, and I await your reply.

Q: On 1/26 you stated that railway ties & utility poles demand are cyclical,but steady demand remain over the long term.Since its big drop in mid Jan,these are comments from 4 guests on BNN.1)strong support @ $38 2)A model price of $57.25 3)Echoing 5I's view,strong demand for railway ties & utility poles over long term.Poles in USA are past their useful life,so going to be constant demand, 4)Value managers had been doing work & finding there is value.5) Strong management 6)One guest bought on the drop.One nibbled away @ the position.Note that it has since stablised Is there any update since 1/26 & when it is reporting.Have 5I spoken to management recently.Is it within 5I's policy to contact management of companies.Appreciate u usual great services & views
