Q: I have a question about DHX and specifically DHX.DB.

The debentures are trading around $94 and have a coupon of 5.875% coming due in 2024.

Do you think the company is sound enough to be around in 2024 assuming no take over?

Would these debentures be a good investment for the more speculative part of a fixed income portfolio? If not, any suggestions?

Regards
John

Q: Thinking of buying this company. Could be a takeover candidate for a larger fin tech company. Good executives have joined former Cisco executive and Descartes systems. Stock up nicely yesterday. Seems to me a company for the growth portfolio ie tfsa. Financing was done at $1.70 with lock in til February 2018. Would you buy?

Q: Interested in your thoughts on Trek Mining, given the upcoming amalgamation of Trek, Newcastle Gold and Anfield Gold to become Equinox Gold. Also your thoughts on the proposed company's management team given the past record of the chairman Ross Beaty. Trek is trading at close to its 52 week low. Does that indicate a lack of confidence by investors in the new company.

Q: I've held MMM for the last several years, but have become increasingly uneasy with its valuation (though it's not the only stock I feel that way about!). Do you think MMM's current valuation warrants an exchange with another US industrial? If so, could UTX foot that bill and would it complement my other holdings in that space: NFI, SIS, WSP and XYL. Other/better suggestions most welcome! While I have enjoyed the relative stability MMM has provided to my portfolio, I could be comfortable with something a little "growthier" in that space.

Q: I have an opportunity to invest in a private enterprise that has developed new technology in the music industry. The technology is both significant and international in scope but the company is still in the early stages. Capital investment seems to me to be high risk, but if the company is successful, there could also be high rewards. With 5i's experience in venture capital over the years, I would appreciate your words of wisdom.

Q: Would now be the time to buy Japanese equities? I have read that the Japanese currency is at a 30-year low relative to the US dollar which suggests buying a non-hedged ETF. However the only one I can find in Canada is currency hedged(CJP) an iShares product. And it is traded on the new exchange in Toronto which until today I wasn't aware of. I assume that if one buys the iShares Japan( which one can buy with no currency hedging) in the US that there is a 15% hold-back on dividends which may not be much of an issue. What are your thoughts on buying CJP and is there a Canadian version that is not hedged?
