Q: We are planning to set up a separate investment account for our grandkids. Assume a 10 year hold. There are a few sectors we would want to overweight - 3 stocks, CAD or US, in Financials, Industrials, Technology and 1-2 stocks in the others. What would you look for and how would that translate into individual stock selections.
Q: In a response to Marco today you indicated that BCE has a 12 month trailing cash flow of 7.6B, compared to dividends of 3.7B. Does this imply a payout of just under 50%, or am I missing something? I thought BCE's payout was well over 100%. If the 50% figure is correct, why all the concern about a dividend cut? Please clarify.
Thank-you

Q: Hi,
The BCE dividend is presently at almost 9%.
Would it be a smart move to buy it just for the dividend? The thing is I don’t want to lose capital that offsets the dividend either.
Knowing no one can predict future company actions, do you think they will cut their dividend?
Do you see the stock price drop if they don’t raise their dividend in February?
Where do you see BCE stock price in 5 to 10 years? Does it at least stay flat?
Thanks

Q: Hi folks,
I hold BCE and Telus in my RRSP. Would like to reduce my weighing in BCE. With that money I am looking at adding to one of... GOOGL, MSFT, AAPL or VISA which would bring one of these to a 9% weighing which I'm okay with. May I have your opinion as to which one you would add to and why.
Thanks

Q: Bell used to be known as the orphans and widows stock, so I purchased some for the dividend which was better than a GIC at the time thinking that Bell was a fairly secure and stable stock.
Now I am under water by quite a lot and wondering what to do with it. How long do you think it will take to recover at least some of its losses. The dividend is good but if it keeps going down, then the dividend is not much good.
Is it a hold or a sell?
If it is a sell, what is a good replacement?
I am a senior.
Thanks for all your help.
Shirley

Q: Hi 5i Team, I Have two questions following today's significant deal between BCE and Rogers.
1- Market reaction was a bit negative on Rogers stock following the deal with BCE, What would be the trigger point to take a position in Rogers following that deal should Rogers stock keep falling.
2 Following that deal between these two giants, which company would you consider the best deal BCE or RCI.B at current levels?
Thx for your opinion.
Michel

Q: Given the announcement today of BCE selling its interest in MLSE, the market seems to be reacting somewhat positively to the news - I’m curious as what do you think is a comfortable level of debt that the market is looking for? How much more assets do you think the market would like BCE to shed and apply to debt reduction??
Q: Your thoughts please on the BCE news today?
Thx

Q: Good morning,
In an answer to Danny on August 13, you said that BCE's trailing twelve months dividend is around $3.7B, which is covered by the operating cash flow of $7.6B, I read a post from Reddit yesterday that says BCE's free cash flow payout ratio is 109% stating that its dividend is covered by debt and equity dilution. Can you explain why these numbers are so wildly different? Thanks very much,

Q: What are you highest conviction Canadian dividend stocks at this moment with interest rates falling, if one is looking for a combination of dividend yield and total return.
Q: I've read through the comments on BCE today. Do you see it as a hold, or sell? If sell, what do you see as a good dividend-paying replacement?
Q: What are the implications for BCE to be cut to One Notch Above Junk by Moody’s last week ? Thanks
Q: Hi,
On September 4 in an answer to Ritwick's question, you said: "BCE did not cut its dividend in other times of crisis...".
I thought BCE cut its dividend by about half in 2008. It did raise the dividend again to previous trend levels in the subsequent year(s).
I vaguely recall at the time that the 2008 dividend cut was quite a dramatic move for a "widows and orphans' stock and of course no one could predict at the time the dividend would be reinstated the next year.
Cheers, Michael

Q: The Globe reports that Moody's just downgraded BCE. I understand that the downgrade means borrowing costs are higher. What else does it mean?
Do you think that BCE will have need to borrow money in the next couple of years.
Thanks a lot for your views.

Q: 5i Research has been always positive about BCE and its high yield as manageable and the Management is doing a good job through challenging times. BCE bonds last week were rated at just 2 notches above junk by Moody & S&P Globe ratings. I am wandering if you can justify your optimism in this light of downgrading. If so please provide reason for your optimism.
