Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: My 31-year-old daughter would like to build a portfolio of income-paying investments within her RRSP, LIRA, and TFSA accounts, with the intention of reinvesting dividends through a DRIP over the years. Which six Canadian dividend-paying stocks would you recommend for this goal or would it be more effective to use dividend-focused ETFs instead? The primary objective is to build a portfolio that generates reliable income. Thank you.

Q: Can you speak a little more about this company.

In May, you said it might be a good speculative play and recently you mentioned it as a possible 3x bagger.

Was that an endorsement? Also, what does it mean that the company is priced at $0.00 (actually 0.0018)? Can I really buy 100,000 shares for $180?

Thanks.

Q: Hello Team,

Do you know what has woken up BFLY? I know that it was mentioned in TIME magazine in September as part of its World's Top HealthTech Companies 2025 list. It was also blogged and ranked #1 by Zacks. The stock continues to grow (70% in a month). I wonder if this is only anoher hype and it will fizzle out sooner or later? Or is this growth for real, based on solid improvements?!

I would appreciate it if you could shed some light on this company and its fundamentals? Is it worth averaging up just to break even and get out? Or has the company finally turned a corner and better days are ahead?

Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone at 5i.

Does the 30 day rule apply to a TFSA account or to a LIF account?

Q: I am building a diversified portfolio of healthcare stocks. I own JNJ, AMGN, MDT, CVS and MRNA. These are 2.9%, 3.8%, 2.5%, 4% and 0.5% of my portfolio respectively. Is this a high quality portfolio? Would you recommend any changes?

Q: Each of these have fallen below 1% percent of total portfolio value in my non-reg account. What order of preference would you suggest for adding to top up? Altrnatively should any go or should there be a new addition? I am low in consumer cycles, comms and health.

Q: Hi,

I have been trying the understand the pros and cons of covered calls and options ETFs by looking at previous questions on the subject. I spent considerable time on the matter and I am more confused than ever.

Would you be kind enough to summarize your views on the matter and, if you are really positive about it, please provide a list of the best ETFs suitable for a strong growth investor.

Gratefully,

Jacques IDS
