Q: Hello, what are the reasons that constellation made 2 spinoff (topicus and lumine) in the past years ? Why did they not keep everything under one roof and continue to grow constellation instead and follow the same path like Berkshire Hathaway that never did a spinoff.

Q: Hello 5i Team,

I'm creating TFSAs for my two children, and I would like to purchase a basket of 15-20 Canadian stocks and CIBC CDRs, since their accounts are commission-free.

Could you please recommend some names for me to consider with a focus on growth while maintaining some sector diversity.

Would you recommend adding a global ETF for geographical diversity? If so, what?

Feel free to subtract as many credits as you see fit.

Thanks, as always, for your helpful advice.

Q: Regarding diversification, do you know insight as to why most professionals recommend diversification, however, Warren Buffet (arguably the most successful investor of all time) has previously said "diversification is—as practiced generally—makes very little sense for anyone that knows what they’re doing...it is a protection against ignorance.".

Yet on top of this, BRK.B has almost 50 holdings according to the 13F Portfolio Filings (although AAPL represents 50% of the holdings). Thoughts or opinions?

Q: Hi. My son recently put 15K into a TSFA and he intends to put 10K/year into it until it is fully funded. Can you suggest, say, 8 equities/etf's (US and or Canadian) that he should buy to start his investing career? Thx. JR

Q: Hello 5i Team

I am reviewing US listed Property and Casualty Insurance companies for the US dollar portion of my RRSP account (in order to receive dividends without US withholding tax).

I understand Brookfield Reinsurance Ltd (BNRE) is a Bermuda based corporation and is not subject to withholding taxes in an RRSP.

Questions:

1 – Is BNRE a suitable candidate?

2 – Please list other US listed P&C insurance companies for consideration in order of preference.

Thank you

Q: Hi Peter and company,

What would be the percent weight range holding the “magnificent 7” in a portfolio for a growth investor? Are there any names you would substitute? Expand to 10?

Thanks for the great service,
Angelo

Q: Hello Folks:

We are seniors who would like to place 200,000 from a 1,300,00 investment account (all stocks) into a top rated Canadian based S&P 500 index fund. Another good alternative may be Berk. B. shares. Growth is more than income as they will reside in our TFSA accounts. I do understand Vanguard & Berk. B. good options, however have little practical knowledge; particularly with taxation issues.
You folks are truly amazing!!!!

Q: You recently said that BN has more upside potential than the Canadian banks. However, I can't bring myself to trust BN management for a number of reasons, including opaque financials, constant shuffling of assets, too many interrelated corporate entities and emphasis on non-GAAP measures rather than good old-fashioned earnings. What gives you confidence that BN is a better long term investment than the Canadian banks?

Q: I have US exposure through a company pension that tracks the S&P. It represents about 20% of my overall holdings. I have recently come into enough US cash to add two or three new individual holdings, or perhaps buy an ETF or two that would complement the S&P tracking pension. I would welcome your thoughts and suggestions for individual stocks or ETFs that would be suitable additions.
