Q: Sorry my question got changed to banks but I was asking about Utilities.
I don't own any and was thinking of picking up a large position for year end. What do you think of this idea and the sector over all? What weighting would you give them? How many should I own? Which ones would you recommend? TIA

Q: The latest drop down transaction with tranalta is described as receiving tracking preferred shares in these assets.Therefore are they being rented or owned ? As well if Transalta goes bust what happens to RNW since TA owns 65%.

Q: I understand that there is a large short interest in Enbridge and some analysts are quite negative on the company. It was mentioned on CNBC yesterday with comparisons made to Kinder Morgan.

Q: How do you assess today's earnings reports?

Q: Can in have your thoughts on potash at its current level and what are your projections in then coming 5 years.

Q: Good Afternoon,

I have a large amount of US$ cash to invest in US denominated securities.

My objective here is to OUTPERFORM the US indices. So far I have been able to accomplish that by buying the Small Dogs of the Dow and I have been achieving my objective. Up 5% this year excluding dividends. However, that only allows me to buy 5 US stocks and therefore I have much US cash.

Can you guys draw upon your vast experience to inform me of any other strategies that have constantly outperformed the indices, or for that matter any US$ based ETF's that have outperformed? I am not looking for individual stock suggestions.

In Canada I already own ZLU and HXS which have outperformed signicantly but in Cdn$.

This is all about outperformance strategies/ETF's which I have had success on, albeit on a limited basis.

Q: I have five energy positions, excluding pipelines, that make up 4% in an overall diversified portfolio. Looking at a 3 year chart for CVE, IMO, CNQ, SU….CNQ is down 40% in the last year and half, while CNQ is down 80%. When there is a recovery, it seems from the chart that there might be more upside with CNQ over CVE. Would it be reasonable for me to sell the CVE position for one of the other three, like CNQ? Or from the fundamentals, should I just hold CVE?.....thanks

Q: Hi team, Just a comment. It is so frustrating....what is wrong with MDA? Nothing! But people seem to like to trade for a maximum of a week! which of course causes my gains to come at a much distant future!
Patience is good, but sometimes one doesn't have the time (read AGE) for it.

Q: Do you believe sustained low energy prices could significantly impact business of renewable energy cos., specifically BEP, RNW, AQN, NPI, BIP.UN per the IEA comments below. How could this play out and which companies would be most vulnerable? Thanks.

The IEA fears that low prices for all fossil fuels, including coal and natural gas, will sideline the renewable energy push in some countries. In the developing world, coal is becoming irresistibly cheap, encouraging the construction of coal-fired generating plants that spew out horrendous amounts of pollutants and greenhouse gases.
“We see the cost of renewables going down, but in a low-oil-price environment, we may well see that some governments may weaken their support for renewable energies or efficiency improvements,” Mr. Birol said. “We have been telling governments that it would be a historical mistake to lessen the support on renewables and efficiency as the price of fossil fuels becomes cheap. Let me be clear: Lower oil prices are a risk for the transformation of energy.”

Q: Thoughts on earnings and the future outlook? Do you feel they will be able to continue double digit growth and showing value despite the ongoing Alberta headwinds... Seems to be priced very attractively vs. NAV and their track record.

Q: I've been holding TRP stock for quite a number of years. Looking at long-term chart comparisons of TRP and ENB, it's obvious that ENB has outperformed. Short-term charts, though, are showing that ENB has been dropping considerably more than TRP, so, in a recovery, could one now expect more upside from ENB than from TRP? I'm wondering, namely, whether this presents a good opportunity to trade my TRP for ENB. Thanks!

Q: I originally purchased Enbridge early this year at $65. I purchased more at $49. Today it is $43 . I am contemplating averaging down again and buying more. Do you think that is a good idea or do you think Enbridge is still likely to go lower still?? (I thought $49 was a low). Thanks for your opinion.
