Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: BSR (HOMu.TO) IPO'd in May 2018. The company looks interesting, nice 5% yield, class B garden style rentals. They buy older apartments, add amenities and increase rental rates.
Looks like a mini Milestone Apartment REIT. Wondering if you know if any analysts follow this story and if you think this might be a good apartment pick to replace some cash from the AAR.UN acquisition.

Q: My 21 year old son received a generous inheritance from his grandfather and uncle. His investments are long term, with the majority being "forever stocks". His telecom weighting is 10%, split equally between BCE and T. Do you think that allocation is too conservative? And if so, which telecom would you keep in the portfolio? Thanks!

Q: The current view seems to be that RTI's prospects lie in the cannabis sector yet its web site describes a wide variety of other food product applications where both yield and quality have been substantially increased, and reduced costs for other industry participants. That suggests a much greater profit opportunity assuming their microwave processing patents hold up. Do you have a view on this or other useful reference points. Thanks

Q: Good morning,

Looking for your insights on fixed income strategies in this environment of potentially rising rates. I have reviewed a number of etf 's which have shown negative returns over the last couple of years. Are they any etfs, bond funds or strategies ( ladderred gic's?) that you feel are suited to what may be a new era of gradual interest rate creep.

thank you

Q: I read the blog post on best US dividends.

5) IVZ - Invesco Ltd
4) AMAT - Applied Materials
3) T - AT&T
2) WBA - Walgreens Boots Alliance
1) CAH - Cardinal Health

What do you think of these? If I bought US Cash now to get some exposure are these relatively safe to hold for income and potential growth in the next 1 – 5 years?

I searched past questions on a few of these and I didn’t necessarily see 5i recommending them. Interested to know your thoughts / ranking.

Thanks.

Q: So now it makes sense why it crashed with no "news" I mean no news for us, but the promoters of the stock, new well in advance of all the inside maneuvers and took their profits , while dumb money are .. well dump money. Pretty much all health care stocks have been a disaster: PHM, CXR, PLI, CRH. The only way to make money on this type of stocks is to be early and leave once everybody is talking about them.

The above is a question asked by a member of this site for Reliq. if the above is true, why would you recommend to members that RHT is still worth buying. Please explain. Photon keeps bouncing to $2.30 level. Do you think it is worth adding to a full position and any idea why Spotify is surging everyday. Is Spotify a potential Netflix (in terms price appreciation). Lastly with the senate vote, i would have expected a surge in cannabis stocks, but they actually fell a bit. Thanks for your input, and appreciate your ongoing advice.

Q: Many moons ago I had bought Azarga Uranium's predecessor before it tanked and became Azarga! I had hoped it would have been taken over by a Big player like Cameco. This didn't happen. This is before Fukushima disaster I think. It is now worth 18-35 cents a share. (52 week range)
They announced their ? merger with URZ an energy company. Worth buying AZZ or URZ? I am fully aware that this is completely a speculative buy!
Taking a small position is NOT going to impact on my overall portfolio positions and my retirement. I am fully aware that this is not a strategy that you generally recommend! However I pose this question b/c "out west" ( aka Vancouver exchange) ) some of the companies seem to go through sudden surges when they assume new identity! I had witnessed this during dot com bubble!!
Many thanks.

Q: I am intrigued with Alcanna. However, Scotia has EPS expectations of only 15cents for F2019 leaving it's current forward PE at above 60. It also have negative cash flow which means they are funding the dividend by debt. What are your expectations? Is the valuation pricing in growth from renos and cannabis past F2019. I can't seem to convince myself that holding this through 2019 is worth it especially at this valuation. Please give me your thoughts and provide buy-side analysis. Thanks.
