BMO Canadian High Dividend Covered Call ETF (ZWC $18.91)
-
Mackenzie Floating Rate Income ETF (MFT $16.51)
Q: Good day and thank you for all your valuable information. In looking to consolidate some income positions in my portfolio I would like to bring one of these two high income earners toward a fuller position of 4-5% in my portfolio (currently ZWC at 1.1% and MFT at 1.98%). Portfolio is aimed at getting 80-20 split equity-fixed income. Can I have your thoughts on these two and any suggestion toward any other I should be considering instead. Thank you.

Vanguard Retirement Income ETF Portfolio (VRIF $25.88)
Q: Hey there,
All of these etfs pay good dividends for a retiree. Can you compare/contrast the risks associated with each and in particular, and is there any compelling reason to switch to VRIF?
Thanks

iShares Core Balanced ETF Portfolio (XBAL $31.98)
Q: My wife has 75% of her portfolio in laddered GICs and I am looking for a one-stop solution for the remaining 25%. Would XTR be a reasonable substitute for any of the major balanced ETFs such as VBAL, XBAL, ZBAL, or HBAL or would you recommend one of the latter? XTR pays a significantly higher dividend and appears to possess a similar structure, although not quite as globally diversified on the equity side. Your opinion please. Thanks.

Q: Hello 5i,
I am looking to create a sector diversified portfolio, that will provide dividend income
each month throughout the year? Preferably yields over 4%, reits, and etfs are acceptable. Even better would be payouts at the beginning of each month?
Thanks for your help
Stephen

Q: What is your view of return of capital ETF's, like XTR...in particular, do you think they are sustainable and are there any risks that stand out which do not apply to other ETF models? Thank you.

Q: ..likely a dumb question but if a company running an ETF finds itself in trouble for some reason and goes bankrupt, or is put out of business for some other reason, what happens to the unit holders? overall, do you see the ETF space as a safe place to invest in and which management companies would you try and stick with....ishares, BMO, Horizon for example. thanks.
Q: XTR and MFT offer attractive yields and seem relatively stable...are you comfortable with how they generate distributions and would you recommend them today? Thanks, great service.

Q: I am 72 and retired. I have been building a part of my portfolio (58.4%) for the last three years with ETFs. Current holdings are (% weight of portfolio in brackets): zwh (10.5), zwu (9.1), zwc (8.5), mft (5.9), xtr (5.3), xhy (5.2), zwe (4.7), cdz (3.2), zdh (3.2) & zre (2.9). With 24.2% cash, I plan on slowly adding to these etfs. How would you do this? The remainder of my portfolio is in dividend paying Canadian large caps.
Thanks, Jim
Thanks, Jim

Q: My income portfolio consisting of the above equities has taken quite a beating in the recent market downturn. Except for LB, there has been some recovery in prices, and so far dividends have been maintained. I have some excess cash to deploy, and would like your advice on whether to double down on some on my current investments, or your suggestions for other beaten down income investments. Thank you.

Q: I have shares it both of the these Income funds. FIE-T is down 24% and XTR-T is down 12. 42%. in my registered portfolio. I'm thinking of selling the entire position in XTC-T and purchasing more shares in FIE-T . The later has a much higher yield in FIE then XTC-T . Your thoughts ? Is this reasonable. Thanks

Q: Hello,
Please comment on my logic based on relative beta's :
If I sell my holdings of XTR and buy equal amount of ZRE, in theory, is there more of a chance that in a market recovery, the overall return for ZRE will be higher simply because it fell more and can therefore rise more?
Or is that too simplistic considering there are so many moving parts?
Many thanks!

Q: Hello 5i
3 analysis requests per above : can you comment on these ETFs in regards to North American holdings overlap and geography overlap for the international exposure etfs (all are 1/2 to full positions). If you have replacement etf options please feel free to comment. Finally in regards to respective sector identification / allocation what would 5i recommend for the north american focused etfs (source the fund fact disclosure or simply enter as an index?) Thanks for the innovative hi level investment platform & your service.

Q: My wife has this mutual fund with a 2% MER, very little growth and a small dividend. Would you kindly suggest a couple of replacements (ETF or Index fund or Mutual fund) with a similar risk level and sector coverage but without the high MER.
Many thanks
