Q: 5i team what would be your thoughts on adding some leveraged funds to my taxable account. The lending rate would be locked in at 2.99% for a year and then if no other promotional offers next year maybe in the 4% range after that. I would be investing the entire amount into ZDV with a dividend of 4.4%.
I can re invest the distributions monthly at no cost with Questrade. And the interest on the loan would be a tax write off.
How much of my portfolio would be the max to leverage (5%-20%) how long term should I be thinking to hold ZDV. Or any other candidates for ETFs?
Thank you!

Q: Good Morning! I am going to become a grandparent for the very first time in the next couple of weeks!! I would like to build a stock portfolio for my grandchild over the next 18 to 20 years, investing $1,000 each birthday year. Which two stocks (or ETFs, if you think that is better) would be excellent choices to begin a long-term portfolio the day the baby is born, with dividends reinvested through DRIP? Thank you so much for your help!

Q: Hello,
I am considering buying a CAD-listed ETF such as XAW or VXC. Could you advise which account (RRSP, TFSA) I should hold the purchases to avoid or minimize withholding U.S. taxes on any dividends? I recall reading that buying a CAD-listed ETF of US/International stocks would not be sufficient to avoid US withholding taxes on any dividend. I am not sure if this statement is indeed accurate.
Thanks

Q: I note an article in Globe may 31 Insider selling - COO of Magna sold out. Is this a red flag?? thx Jim
Q: Aimia bond (May, 2019- 8.44%) vs KWH.UN vs ALA.R. Which one is the safest in both principle and income? Please rank. Thanks
Q: I have done well over the years investing in the fast food industry such as AW.UN, PZA and others. I am thinking of exiting the sector, at least in Canada, due to the changes being implemented in Alberta and Ontario which will raise the minimum wage significantly. I understand it affects everyone equally but the prices will have to rise at these locations and it could generally force patrons to seek other ways to get lunch etc. The same store sales seem to be slipping in this sector already and now add in higher costs. Unfounded concern?
Q: Hi Peter: I have 2500 shares of BPF.UN which is 17% of my RIFF. This is also 4% of my total investment portfolio. I have owned BPF.UN for sometime wherein the dividend pays a return of 8% on my original investment. Considering your recent remarks about would you suggest I sell, reduce or keep my shares? If I sell can you suggest a replacement? Thank you for your valuable advice. Ron N.
Q: I am looking into investing in Canadian shale plays (i.e. Duvernay basin). Can you suggest any names that look interesting, from a drilling and infrastructure perspective?
Thanks.

Q: 1. I want to make sure I'm not overweight in oil and gas. Since some utility companies have gas, do they count as utility sector or oil and gas?
I own FTS, ENB, ALA and WCP. Obviously WCP is a pure oil and gas stock and FTS is a utility because its electric, but how would you classify ALA and ENB? Globe and mail investor classifies ENB as oil and gas and ALA (although ALA does have gas so I am confused) as utility which would put me at:
WCP, ENB oil and gas
ALA and FTS Utility
Do you agree with the above? This would give me an 8% weighting in each?
2. I was also thinking of using my cash position to add kwh.un which i believe classifies as a utility due to the focus on electric. It would bring me to a 12% weighting in utilities if my above sector allocations are correct. I have all ten sectors represented in my portfolio and would be buying for the dividend. what do u think?

Q: I keep wanting to buy something in the solar space. The overall trend seems to be too strong to not do well eventually. Picking a winner however is another matter. Does CSIQ look better given the latest results and the new and substantial contract in Dubai? If not CSIQ is there anything you would recommend? Thank-you again for your insight and great service, the only great service I have ever come across for us mere retail investors.
Q: I am wondering whether it is time for me to dump these two and put the money into something with a bit more of an uptrend. Am thinking of SIS for one. What's your opinion on the future trends of these three for the next 1 - 2 yrs?
Q: Good morning, 5i team,
I know you don't usually give advice on US stocks. I wonder if you can provide your opinion if Amazon is a buy at the current price! What do you think of the valuation n growth in the next three years? What would be the greatest risk?
Do you think it's better to buy a Healthcare stock instead? If yes, can you provide a name or two mainly for growth?
Thanks a lot! Rossana.
