Q: Hi,
This is more a big picture question.
For several decades the concept of "Inter-market Analysis" had high "currency" value. Simplistically summarized thus: Stocks go up and bonds go down. Inflation goes up so does Gold. US goes down and Emerging markets go up etc.,
That idea seems to be dead now. It appears that having a long and short position even within sectors seems to be popular. Or the correlation exists still but with different asset classes. For eg., inflation and Bitcoin are now linearly correlated!
Or Bitcoin and Gold are negatively correlated! (Bitcoin hit another record today>50 k and Gold went down below 1800$!!)
Should one really forget about fundamentals and enroll in classes for Options trading strategy?

Q: Hi 5i, BNGO
This company is not currently in your data base. I am considering a 1/2 or 1/4 position is this genomics company and would like your opinion on 2- 3 year hold.
Is this a company you would have any interested in at the current price. Why/why not.
Any suggestions for similar strong candidates in this space.
Thx
Jim

Q: Hello 5i,

I have enough money to open a new 1% position in a portfolio that is intentionally a little overweight in tech, but otherwise well-diversified. I currently don't have any pureplay cybersecurity companies or any pureplay fintech/payments companies (although I do own MELI, STNE and SE). Which of these two sectors would you invest in first. I was thinking CRWD for cybersecurity and SQ or PYPL for fintech/payments.

Thanks

Q: Hi 5i
Its my understanding that Cannacord Research has come out with a report ranking using $55 WTI and SGY is the #1 FCF company of 'all public oil and gas companies in Canada for 2021'. It seems like the right time to be acquiring this Surge. Also, do you conside them to be a takeout target and who might be interested? Thanks

Q: I have some extra cash sitting in a bank account earning next to nothing. I hold positions in the above companies and am thinking about adding to one of them. I understand that no equity investment is truly safe but which company would be your pick if capital preservation and dividend safety was top of mind. Thank you.

Q: Hello 5I
I am thinking of switching CGI Group (1.05% of portfolio) and OTEX (3.19% of portfolio) for TOPICUS , looking for more growth. TOPICUS also looks like a company that may employ AI going forward in their vertical market software offerings. I am a bit overweight Technology but not concerned about it.
You thoughts please
Thank You

Q: Like 5i, I have held Enbridge for quite sometime. Looking back to 2014, Enbridge has gone nowhere and depending on the purchased price, e.g. 5i's case, in the negative. As explained to Paul a week ago Dividend is great, still very safe, etc. Now with the latest weak quarter, all the political, environmental hoopla; could you explain the benefits, even in an income portfolio of why Enbridge should be retained.
Thank You, Stephen S

Q: How does one approach bond investments given the low interest rates. I see XBB had a significant drop today. Why? How would you compare XBB to PMIF?
I am retired senior 78 with a pension.

Q: I am uncertain regarding calculating acb when, say, a husband and wife own the same stock in different taxable accounts. Is it required to calculate acb from both husband and wife's account, or from each account individually? Sorry to trouble you with such an elementary question. But, I did a Google search and didn't find anything.
