Q: As a value investor, I've been liking the performance of the AVDV small cap ETF which I presently own. I'm not sure if you are familiar with AVES from the same ETF family. I'd like to add a bit of Emerging market exposure, and since this ETF option is another value type, I was drawn to it. Do you see AVES as being acceptable relative to the usual VWO's and VEE's of the Emerging Market world of ETF's ?

Q: I’m trying to get to the bottom of whether or not CDRs are considered U.S.-situs property for Canadian citizens/residents who don’t otherwise have any U.S. connection (other than through their stock market investments). If one checks the CDR website (https://cdr.cibc.com/#/contact), there is the following statement: “The application of U.S. federal estate tax to CDR holders is dependent on an individual’s particular circumstances and CIBC does not provide tax advice. As such, CDR holders should consult their own tax advisors regarding the U.S. federal estate tax consequences of investing in the CDRs.” I have never seen any “official” document on any website that provides a clear answer. Are you aware of anything “official” out there that is definitive in this regard? I am looking for a definitive source (reference) that can be cited in this regard. (And please make the assumption when addressing this question that the Canadian account holder in question would have sufficient overall assets that they would be subject to U.S. estate taxes, if indeed CDRs for U.S. corporations are indeed considered to be U.S.-situs assets.) (I realize you are not tax experts/advisors, but this does seem to be a rather basic issue that must somewhere have a clear cut "official" answer.)

Q: 5I has been putting HPS.A at the front of the line in growth stocks and I have been getting interested. I like the idea of the business. I also subscribe to Simply Wall Street and get regular emails on stocks I'm watching. Below is my last email from them

" Second quarter 2024 results:
EPS: CA$1.98 (up from CA$1.12 in 2Q 2023).
Revenue: CA$197.2m (up 14% from 2Q 2023).
Net income: CA$23.6m (up 77% from 2Q 2023).
Profit margin: 12% (up from 7.7% in 2Q 2023).
The increase in margin was driven by higher revenue.Revenue exceeded analyst estimates by 3.6%. Earnings per share (EPS) also surpassed analyst estimates by 1.5%.Revenue is forecast to grow 7.3% p.a. on average during the next 3 years, compared to a 28% growth forecast for the Electrical industry in Canada.Over the last 3 years on average, earnings per share has increased by 50% per year but the company’s share price has increased by 125% per year, which means it is tracking significantly ahead of earnings growth. "

I appears to me that the revenue is lagging the electrical industry and earnings are being exceeded by share price by quite a bit . The thing that hit me the hardest was the revenue forecast { 7.3% per anum } versus the electrical industry { 28% } . That is almost 4 times HPS.A's outlook .....Add to that that earnings increased 50% and the share price increased 125% suggesting the stock is well ahead of itself ..... Could 5I comment on this ? It looks to me like the shares are priced for perfection and one bad quarter could result in a major correction ? ......Thanks for your great service ......

Q: Following ASPN for an entry point and sense that there are concerns amongst investors about ASPN going forward despite the excellent last quarterly report. Is there concern about the LNG aspect of business given that Democrats, in particular, want to temper natural gas use and further development? Best to wait until after the upcoming quarterly report?

Q: I bought into Celh after the first leg down, around $79. Wasn’t expecting a tank into the 40’s. Question: bite my lip and wait for a recovery or take the tax loss and move the funds into something like Aspen Aerojels that has also taken a hit but seems to have considerable stock price upside?
