Q: Just a few questions on the new NFI report. Your data on the website (love the new expanded info!) shows EPS estimates of $3.07 and $3.28 in 2017 and 2018. On my RBC research they show 2.48 and 2.57. Is it usual that analysts would differ so considerably in their estimates?
Also on the web site data you show NFI dividend growth of 4.30% over 5years but your recent report indicates growth of 7.9% over 5 years?
Based on the 3.07 3.28 earnings are expected to grow 7%. Does this include the expected margin expansion to 6.8%?
Many thanks.
Mike
Q: I hold a small positon (2%) in CanWel which apparently did OK this quarter. I was considering adding to this position but reading previous questions and answers it, would appear that 5i is not that keen on this stock because of it's cyclical nature and perhaps I should sell into their quarterly results. Debt and payout ratios seem high. Are there other negatives or positives I should be considering?
Q: I noticed in Grande West's just-released quarterly results that it has a "going concern" warning at note 1. I see this warning from time to time. When should one be concerned about this?
Q: I have been following ELD, and researched the fundamentals. It seems to me that the debt is well covered, as indicated by the Current Ratio and Quick Ratio, among other indicators. Do you feel that ELD is in immanent danger, and that is why the price has been dropping so dramatically of late. If so, which indicators show that?
Q: Have read many questions and answers on this company-re real estate value etc.
Just wondering if it may possibly be consolidating (since January) and if there might be anything in the works for a possible breakout?
Thanks
Jeff
Q: I have been looking at GDI for some time. The metrics seem to be a combination of good and bad so I guess it comes down to the issue of management competency?? Like a lot of your subscribers I am a long term investor and put relatively more weight on growth as opposed to dividends. What is your latest take on GDI for a 2-3 year hold?
Thanks, Doug
Q: I know you don't have a crystal ball but GUD keeps going down while patience is advised. At what point (price) does the stock hit a bottom if no acquisition occurs. I've never seen a stock like this one.
Q: In one of your answers this morning you referred to the current "lithium frenzy". Do think it's at all sustainable for companies like LAC, RCK or even AAL? Are there any lithium stocks that you might consider suitable for a growth investor?
Thank you,
John
Q: Hi Peter and team
I am down considerable in my RSP in ENB,SGY, and WCP.
I note you are in favour of a new position in CVE. I will keep ENB but was wondering if a switch out of SGY and WCP to CVE or to buy more of ENB is warranted? I will not need the RSP funds for 3 years or more and it is fairly balanced at the moment.
Your comments appreciated as always
Peter
Q: GTE made a deal to off load some Peru assets. Does this have material meaning to GTE going forward? They seem to be getting shares of the new company vs cash.
Q: Hello Peter et al.:
What do you make of the big rise yesterday in SDX? No news. What is your viewpoint on the company’s prospects?
P.S. love the new website and the feature of the additional data on companies.
Q: Hello 5i,
I have recently made some changes in my portfolio and have some U.S. dollars to invest and was wondering the best positioning, considering that I have a fairly balanced portfolio. I follow Barry Riholtz and have found him to be pretty good. He says basically that the US may be in for a slower growth for the next little while, while emerging markets would be best. Here is his post, if it is of interest:
https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2016-how-to-invest-10k/
He suggests VWO. I was wondering what your thoughts on this thesis would be?
Also, another question. If you were going to invest in US etfs, the great investor Warren Buffet, says the best thing is to just buy a vanguard etf for the S&P and forget about it.
I notice, however, that you often suggest other options like VIG, which I believe is a dividend appreciation etf for the American market. Do you think it is worth the extra trouble to diversify from Buffet’s original suggestion?
Thanks again
