Q: If I transfer a stock in kind to my RRSP account,is it advantageous to pick one that is down a bit that you think will eventually come back up(Altagas,Vermilion,etc)or Sunlife that I am up on price on.Thanks Don

Q: Having read so many questions recently from your customers citing down 20%, 50% and worse; and feeling the pain myself ... would it make sense as part of a "flight to safety" plan (tip the risk reward in my favor/minimise downside risk) to buy a real return bond fund - or something similar? Looks like the dividend is only 1.9% but short term that beats a lot of other choices.

Q: These Dundee series 4 preferred shares tanked during the past week after Dundee announced plan to exchange them (redeemable in June 2016) to class 5 shares redeemable in June 2019) - http://dundeecorp.com/pdf/2015-12-10-QandA.pdf
The exchange incentives are clearly not sufficient considering the fact that these pref shares now have junk rating (re prefblog.com). What is the most concerning is that the company is now offering extra payment to shareholders who vote in favour of exchange (see Globe and Mail article here: https://t.co/HseE5rIvF8). I would never think something like this is even legal in Canada... What's your opinion of this?

Q: Over the past several months I have gone to 60% cash.
I have only 3 banks & 2 telecoms left in account.
Thinking now would be a good time to start getting back in.

If you had to buy any 3 Canadian stocks for a 63 year old conservative investor which 3 would you buy.

Q: Peter, crude oil is below $40 but yet the gasoline price near where I live in Toronto is still around $1/litre. This gasoline price is the same as when oil was around $80 or so. What am I missing? Why the gasoline price doesn't come down. Thanks for the insights.

Q: Good Afternoon: My question is really currency related rather than Visa specifically. I own a few US stocks including Visa which fortunately for me I purchased when there was not as much difference between the US and Canadian dollar. As a result of stock performance and the difference in currency valuation I have done well. I would like to make a few more US purchases but cant make myself do so with the almost 40% hit. In my opinion some time in the future our dollar will get stronger. Do you have any suggestions or can you recommend Canadian companies or ETF's that I can buy without being so concerned about the currency. Thank You.

Q: RBC has a Top Pick rating on this stock. It continues to implode. Is it year end selling or is there some other underlying cause. I've averaged down based on RBC rating but it's continuing to drop. Thoughts ??

Q: Hi Peter & team:
I own CF.PR.A and RON.PR.A (along with a couple of others) which are preferred the rates of which will be reset in March and September 2016, which explain in part why they down so much. These are part of the income portion of my portfolio, so I am still fine in staying in that space. My question is whether I should be worried about the credit risk of those two specific names. Would it make sense to switch to other beaten down resets with a better credit risk, such as BCE or FTS? If so, would you have suggestions. Thanks.
