Q: Hi 5I,

Could you please suggest 3 or 4 ETF's that would be tax suitable for a non registered income account. I now have a mix of large cap Canadian Dividend stock (Bank,Utilities), in the account and a GIC ladder.
I'm looking for minimal 4% monthly payout , higher is better.

Q: Your last comments about Enerplus in January 2018 were more promising. Also on March 21 there was a 9% pop in the share value after the company announced a stock buyback over the next 12 months. After having this stock in our RIF for a few years I lack confidence in the company and certainly have not been receiving much of a dividend either during this time. I am still down 29%. Wondering if I should just move along or is now the time to hold for awhile longer. Your opinion please.

Q: Hello,
I would like to buy S&P 500 index through ETF. Could you explain the differences among VFV/T, XUS/T and ZSP/T. Which one of them you recommend? Should I convert Canadian dollars to US dollars to buy SPY? Should I buy hedged ETF(S&P 500 index)?

I have been a STN shareholder since April 2014 a few months prior to the STN stock split announced Oct same year. At the time, I took a 4% long term position based on the company rarely if ever missing on expectations and it having a history as one of the Dividend gems over a very long period of time - 50+ years if I recall.

I have been very patient and although consistent capital gains are unfair to expect from every investment, I have to admit especially when considering the pedigree and your resent report, the sideways motion of this stock price over the past 4 years has been less than flattering in my view. And now they have missed expectations 5 of the last 8 quarters.

My expectations over the past 4 years when I bought the stock? A nice dividend which I have realized, and a modest Capital gain (say 5 - 7%/yr) which I didn't think unreasonable. I bought my shares @ pre-split $67.54. Today the stock is trading at (pre-split) $65.24.

I recently read your Oct 2017 report which outlines an A- rating which would lend me to believe this is an excellent company to hold in my portfolio for solid dividend & capital gains growth expectation. But as I see it right now, there is nothing on the horizon which lends me to believe anything is going to change. Interestingly, if you google STN in the Globe & Mail, it comes back as "no news for the past 2 years." And that pretty much sums it up!

Comparatively speaking... if I had bought SJ at the same time I would have seen a 35% Capital Gain over the same period of time.

Questions... If you were me, would you be happy with this performance? Would you recommend continuing to hold STN and if so why? (A- rating) And is there any reason you see for the dramatic increase in trading volume over the past 3 days?

Apologies for sounding disillusioned.

Q: To re-balance my portfolio, I could use more consumer stocks. Currently I have Starbucks and Hanes Brands.
If Hanes Brands is considered Consumer Cyclical, I would would be looking for a Consumer Non-Cyclical. Would ATD.B a good choice with the recent pullback or would would you recommend something else. The stock would be purchased in my TFSA account.
For a Consumer Cyclical BRP is of interest but with yesterday's increase, should I wait for the next pullback or can you offer another alternative.

Q: There were a lot of people calling into Jim Kramer (Mad Money) about this market drop - as it is difficult to understand him, he was saying don't average done (basically) wait until the market stabilizes, etc. and when the market does, good stocks (i.e. Fang stocks) would be one of the first to lead the market out of this. There was a rate hike and Trump seemed to be going after a trade war with the Chinese which Kramer seemed to be saying was the cause. Two weeks ago Larry Berman predicted there would be a 20% drop within the next 12 months. How do you see this and what are your recommendations? What is a good ETF for Fang stocks? Thank you Dennis

Q: HI 5i, My TFSA account contains all this: CSU KXS PHO SIS, I'm looking may be for a new Stock. Considering COV or RHT, or any other (you think is better fit for me), of these two which one would you suggest for growth , some risk is ok.

I see there report was a positive surprise. However up 30%...do you think that move is warranted? Please give what you think are all the reasons why such a bounce...What comes to my mind is that the restructuring is working, the dividend is now safe, and the short sellers got killed. By it's nature it seems to be rather volatile.
