Q: Hello,
I own shares of Clarke Inc. They recently spun out Terravest, which I know little about. Terravest seemed to be about half of the value of my original Clarke investment. Clarke a few years ago provided 2 large $2 per share dividends but has not paid any dividends since. I haven't looked into any details of the spinout, though Terravest has dropped about 10% since then. It is holding up better than the market. Can you give me further insights into these 2 positions and whether either are worth holding or adding to? Each represents about 1% of my portfolio. Use as many questions as needed. Thank you.

Q: Shop has become one of the top 3 companies in terms of market cap in Canada. Past companies such as BlackBerry, Valeant etc when they took the top stop their fall was epic. Do you think this time is different and investors are ready to have tech lead over banks? In the US we see tech as these trillion dollar companies but in Canada we still value to banks as the biggest companies. I think the tide might we changing.

Could you please comment on commercial impaired loan growth with respect to the Canadian banks prior to the Cov 19 crisis ? Have they increased their reserves appropriately ?

Q: I know u are more about stock but my question is do u think I should change all my Canadian dollars not invested into US funds. Right now about 50/50 in Canadian stocks and US stocks. With Oil being down the growth in US stocks seem much higher to me. I understand just your opinion..

Q: Greetings:
Could you kindly provide me with as much information as you have
on J C Penney. Debt To equity, debt to cash flow , past and future
projections etc. No doubt you would stay clear of it at 24 cents.
Also does XGD have a US listing. I notice that in answers about
it there is a holding disclosure. Does DLR still have both the US
and Canadian Etf?

Q: I hesitate to ask because I find that some of your subscribers expect you to answer questions which are far from your stated ambit, but at the risk of being lumped in with them let me go ahead anyway. Would you know if the Government of Canada published a budget for 2020-2021, and if so, did it change the capital gains tax formulation? Many thanks.

Q: In this covid-19 crisis,BNS & other big 5 can banks have been following the orders/instructions/requests of both OSFI & the Fed.Gov't.For example,deferring mortgage & credit payments,reducing interest rate on their charge cards,lending supported by the backup of the Fed.etc. What will be the impact on BNS especially on its revenue & bottom line? Shopify appears that it will not continue it's rise. Sell now or buy more?
Berkshire Hathaway A seems to be, in essence, a pricey mutual/ETF fund but one that has fallen and history would suggest will rebound. Buy now or is it your thinking that Buffet and Monger are elderly and this increases risk and/or the Canadian $ too weak and/or stick with B and diversify. Or none of the above? Thank you.

Q: Some gold commentators are salivating over the evolving profitability of the mining companies, and imagining their free cash flows on the verge of going parabolic. I'm thinking that governments at multiple levels are well aware of the situation, and are likely preparing salvos of new taxes, surtaxes, royalties and the like to claim their "fair share" of the wealth.

Q: I currently have a significant position in Yamana and with the recent rise in share price, I have been thinking of selling a portion of my position and buy another mid-cap gold miner. I am likely going to sell my gold positions in 2-3 years time and would like a mid cap company with higher share price growth potential.

I am debating between BTO, AGI and K.

BTO has had some momentum of late but with geo-political risk. AGI has minimal debt but generally produces less gold. Kinross is a larger producer but it may have some leverage to run up significantly with a higher gold price.

Any thoughts on these three stocks and which do you prefer of the three?

Q: Hi there : what would you recommend to protect the portfolio from a high inflation due to all the stimulus packages for the pandemia ?, gold (i.e CEF) , or ENB (with physical assets that will go up in value if inflation goes up). Are shares of financial companies (i.e. TD) protected against inflation ?
