Q: Good morning,

On your recommendation I purchased Exco and am enjoying the ride. Thank you. I'm wondering if it makes any sense to either add Martinrea or switch from Exco to Martinrea as it seems cheaper after Exco's rise. MRE seems at a P/E of 13.50 according to google finance so I'm interested in your thoughts.

Thanks!

Q: I would like your opinion on the Dundee Preferred share which is retractable at 17.84 next June 2016. The current yield to maturity with the shares trading at 17.50 is 7% (5% dividend and 2% capital gain).
Are these shares an attractive investment opportunity?

Q: Hello Peter & Co,
In response to an email about my portfolio, you suggested that I get some US exposure via an ETF. I do not believe in ETFs because it usually includes the good along with the bad and even the ugly. Would you please suggest 5 or 6 US names whose performance would be in line with the 17% pa that I'm getting with my Canadian holdings?
Thanks,
Antoine

Q: I have two UK banks:Barclays , ADR symbol BCS.us ; and Lloyds LYG.us. I probably should not have both and thought of selling LYG especially after I saw you said BCS has 5.4% dividend in a your in Apr 2015. Between BCS and LYG , do you think LYG is the right one to shed?
FYI: In your reply of Apr 17 2015 you mentioned BCS has a yield of 5.4% p.a. Various other sources show yield at half of that. You use Bloomberg terminals which would be more reliable than the sites popular with retail investors. I have however noticed a number of securities for which you mention a yield that is materially different from other sources. I will give higher credence to data you mention . I am however puzzled about the recurring or frequent discrepancies.

Q: I sold VET in May at 55.31. I'm looking at it now at 50, with a dividend of over 5%. Do you think this is a good time to get back in or would you wait to see some strength in the share price. My other energy holdings are IPL, PPL and PEY. They are around 7% of my portfolio.
Thanks for your invaluable insight.

Q: I'd like have some investments that pay a predictable distribution that I either hold forever or get to cash out at the same price I purchased at.

This looks interesting (4.9% and doesn't seem to be a reset-preferred), but I've been burned by preferreds before so I thought I'd ask what you think.

Q: Hi team,

You indicated that in the TFSA, there will be a 15% withholding tax on dividends. How does that play if it is a mutual fund (in U.S.$) held in the TFSA ? What are the pros and the cons of holding such a mutual fund in a TFSA ?

Thanks a million,

Jacques

Q: There is an increase in demand for seniors housing. Is VTR a good stock to own for someone who wants to invest in this sector in the US. Or can you suggest another stock. It appears that they have not cut their dividend even in the 2008 recession.
Thanks again
Terry

Q: With potential pressure on the CDN mortgage market would you advise the following trades. Sell AI.Db.A and FC.Db.A, convertible debentures form 16% of my portfolio the 2 mentioned 4%, and buy VCN. Would this really be just a circular trade?
