Q: I am confused on this company and their special .45cent dividend. Yesterday you stated that you felt that the company stock would drop today as its the ex-dividend date.
However the company's news release on 8.4.16 stated that it would be paid to shareowners as of Sept 2nd. I have been careful not to sell my shares until this date and now, as you predicted, the price of the shares have fallen today. My thought was that today's date simply referred to the 1.5cent regular dividend.

Based on the 13% drop in the share price (4.20 to 3.65) I even acquired more shares thinking I would be getting more of the special dividend. However reading your answer from yesterday after my purchase, I might have snookered myself. (Wouldn't be the first time...)
Can you clear up this up for me.

Q: Hi folks, please get some clarity of Amaya's holding/ownership of NYX Gaming (who seems to be everyone's darling right now). N/R 01 June,Aya says increased holding in NYX to 26.84%, then 20 July,N/R where Aya says it now owns 15.71% of NYX. Amaya had good Q results & with Q results of NYX, Amaya has sold off 10+% from sp after Q results released. Little confused why Aya so weak, especially with such a large holding in upstart NYX. Thanks for explaining to this confused investor hehe, jb

Q: I currently have no position in reits, but do own personal property, which accounts for 50% of my total assets.
I have limited income producing assets (mainly dividends & growth stocks).
I have some cash I am sitting on, thinking that the Fall season often likes to give us a tumble and wondering if I shouldn't put 10% of my portfolio into reits.
Could give advise me on which ones to purchase at this time. (In order of preference).
Would there be an advantage of going with an ETF REIT (either Cdn or U.S,). This purchase would be in an rsp acct. And if you agree which is your preference.
Thank you for being there.

Q: I hold small positions in AD and CHE.UN and have some cash to invest to generate income as I am a retired investor. Which of these two companies would be the best or do you have another company with similar yield that you like better? Is this a good time to put extra cash to work or should one wait? I am not a fan of trying to "time" the market but do like to try to preserve my capital.
Thank you.

Q: Hi Team! Just an investment methodology question.....I have read that Warren Buffet holds 63% of his portfolio in four stocks.( Kraft, Wells Fargo , Coke and IBM I think. He also bought quite a bit of Philips66.) Well there goes the thought of a well balanced portfolio out the window. I hold approximately 30 Canadian and Us stocks with businesses across the board. I understand that he is a value investor who likes his dividends and rarely sells his holdings....so what is the best approach to stock investing? Concentrating on just a few businesses like Mr Buffett, or holding more businesses? Has there been any studies done? Just wondering....Tamara

Q: Hi,

This is follow up to James' question about living off the dividends from these ETFs.

ETFs = XTR,FIE,XEI,VDY,XHY

Suppose I convert my portfolio(s) over to equal weights of these ETFs and start living off the distributions ~ 5.5% yield. I'm ok with the tax situation. I can account for inflation.

What other risks am I taking? When we see another 2001 or 2008 what is the possible impact to the ETF values & the distributions?

I'm not looking for a guess (and certainly not a promise) as to what will happen in the future. I'm looking for a list of additional things that I need to consider about this strategy for my own risk management before pulling the plug on my current working life. A handful of "what-ifs" to consider would be great.

Thanks,

Gord

Q: Is there a way to differentiate between different posters who have the same name when presenting the posts on the Board?

For example my posts show "Stan" and it appears there is myself and at least 1 other poster named Stan.

Could a solution, so as not to expose a poster's full or last name, be to show for example, Stan1 or Stan2...? Or transfer to using an alias? or....?

Maybe this would require too much work on 5i's part. I do not know what any solution would involve in resources for 5i.
