Q: Hi 5i. In April of 2015, you discussed Cdn Dividend ETF's, and suggested that because CDZ (iShares Cdn Div Aristocrats) focused on Co's that regularly increase dividends, that it outperforms other Cdn. Div. ETF's, particularly over the long term.
Do you still consider this view to be valid, particularly as it compares to XDV (iShares Cdn. Select Div. ETF) and ZDV (BMO Cdn. Div. ETF). Thanks T.

Q: Hello 5i
Would you please offer your opinion of a few individual holdings and other investment vehicles worthy of long-time hold and more importantly dividend reinvestment. I see your a selction of ETF you have been noting are VGG(for USA) and CDZ(for Cad). Is this the top idea or are there other ideas (individually or combination of holdings)?
The goal is to take advantage of the market ride and still feel comfortable with the investments and know more of a good investment is being purchased regularly.

Alternatively, would one just let cash build up and buy shares and units on a quarterly basis instead of utilizing a DRIP?

By example, just bought CAR.UN today. Working to determine whether it makes sense to join the drip; especially with the 5% discount of the Plan.

Which of the 2 etfs, zdv or cdz would you recommend for income ,dividend growth and some capital gains. ZDV seems to have a lower MER and higher yield. Thank-you in advance. Sam

I'm looking for an RRSP investment for my wife. What we have right now is a TD US INDEX fund. Chose this one because it has low MER and tracks the S&P 500. Can you give us other index funds that you can recommend be it US or Canadian with good performance?

Q: Can I have your opinion on this ETF. It has the best 1/3/5yr returns when compared to others in the Canadian Dividend and Income universe. For example it has outperformed CDZ by almost 3% annualized over the past 5 years. What has contributed to this over achievement and is there any reason why it won't continue to do so over the next 5 years?

Q: Bought a small portion of ZWU(covered call utilities with 0.72% mer) @ $15.04 in mid 2013(now$13.33) & loss is covered by the 0.08pm distribution.Please advise if I should switch to T,BCE.FTS, CDZ(0.67% mer) or Zlb(.39% mer)In 2013,I did not know what stock in the sector to buy.Since I joined 5I,I learn a lot & now tend to prefer a stock that is suggested by You.Thanks for your usual great advices & services.

Q: Ours is a very conservative portfolio, with one third in dividend-paying equities, half of that individual stocks and half no-load funds. The latter's performance doesn't seem to justify the MER's so I would like to reduce, maybe eliminate, that cost, roughly $5,000 per year. Any thoughts you might have on how best to effect that change and what form that should take, eg less funds, more stocks and/or ETF's, will be much appreciated.

Q: For an ETF investor with a small portfolio do you see any compelling reason to hold BOTH XIC and CDZ for the Canadian component? Or would one suffice? If so which would you prefer?

Q: I would like to divide $100,000.00 into 4 ETS of equal weights. Preferably high yield but still conservative. I have been trying to do it myself but I am overwhelmed by the choices. I currently have the two above but they may be too much the same.
