Q: Own VET, down 35% a pure gas/oil producer.
Own SU you describe as a TOTAL Energy investment.
Should I sell my VET at 35% loss and buy SU or add new money to VET and earn 8.15% on it, Raymond James forecast VET 12 month target at 41.00 ???

Q: I have recently added to VET and YGR to a reasonable weighting in my portfolio.
The gloom and doom news today of the Norway Sovereign wealth fund selling off oil and gas stocks across the board is causing quite a panic. Is there cause to be worried or is this a tempest in a teacup.

Q: I have a capital loss that I want to crystallize in VET, and I was considering buying PPL to maintain sector exposure. I still believe that VET is a company that I would like to hold long term, but I have some capital gains in 2018 towards which I can use this loss to reduce my taxes in my 2019 return.

My concern is that VET could potentially have large gains in the thirty days that I would need to wait in order to crystallize my loss before repurchasing it. My secondary concern is that since VET is paying a substantial dividend (approx. 8.7%), that I might be better off just collecting my dividend and standing pat.

Please let me know what your thoughts would be regarding this idea. Thanks so much!

Q: I own PEY - would you continue to hold with the low P/E and dividend being well covered but the trend is not good or would you sell and if so, why would you sell? If you recommend selling, what would you buy with the proceeds and why?

Q: Hello 5i team
I am down 72% on ALA in my RSP and. 54% down on VET in my RSP
My ALA is a huge position and my loss is over 10,000 . My RSP strategy was “buy and hold” , and I was previously murdered in oils in 2014. I am 69 years old and won’t really rely on my RiF but it really bothers me to take such a loss that can’t be declared. They both pay dividends , but can one expect that they will ever turn around ? I could use a suggestion ... the last time I looked at my RSP I was so ashamed that I bought Shopify as a crap shoot ... turned out to be a good move. Thank you
