Investment Q&A

Q: I'm (still) planning an income portfolio and have decided on the above companies. I think they are solid and the income is attractive. I expect to hold them 5 years.

My concern about all of them is the electric car overhang. I see the trend to E-cars as a long term annual dissipation of the energy sector. Think of a successful 20 year short on the energy sector. There will not likely be a major event, just a gradual decline in earning etc. You have mentioned in another reply that PKI and ATB can use their locations for other purposes, but there's not a lot of uses for an oil refinery or pipelines.

Please provide your views on my conundrum. Thanks.

Q: Hi,

In the energy realm I own full positions in ALA,TRP and PEY and would like to add an oil producer to compliment PEY. My ideal stock would be a long term hold with a decent sustainable dividend. I have looked at VET, SU, IMO and CNQ. SU and CNQ seem to be close to 2 yr highs while IMO is close to 2 yr lows and VET somewhere in the middle. Which of the group do you see as the best value for me. Feel free to suggest a company I haven't looked at.

Q: Within my energy holdings, I have full positions in SU, CNQ, and IMO. I would like to sell one of these 3 and add to my existing VET holdings (I also have full positions in WCP and TOU). Taking into account my desire to have a good balance between oil and gas production, and optimal future capital gains prospects, which of the 3 (SU, CNQ, IMO) would you sell? Also, please provide the percentage of revenue for each of the 6 companies mentioned, that is derived from Canada's oil sands...thx..Glenn

Q: Hello Team
I would appreciate your opinion on IMO now. Past opinion was just OK. I read today that Ford Equity sees it as a strong buy but what would you say? I own it (4.8%) but want to sell it to buy FLOT or XHY (I want some U.S. exposure). I have bought SGY and own Enbridge and Fortis (Utilities but are they considered energy partly?)
thanks for all you do
