Q: Hi,
Please explain why RIGL (US) is down today about 22% after it went up yesterday 100% (mid-day).
My exceptions for the stock were to go up & up after RIGL announce it's trial being conducted by Imperial College London to evaluate the efficacy of fostamatinib, its oral spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK) inhibitor, for the treatment of COVID-19 pneumonia
Thanks,
Morris

Q: Why would the Torstar board agree to a hard lockup on the Nordstar offer when they know there is at least one other bidder interested in buying the company? Also, why would Fairfax indicate they are voting in favour of this deal. Shouldn't a company like Fairfax be pushing the board to entertain other offers. Does FFX have a fiduciary responsibility to its shareholders to ensure they maximize the value of their Torstar holdings. Feels like some inside dealing going on between Nordstar, Torstar board and FFX management??
Also, they cut the dividend in November which knocked the share price down 40%, then in January they put the company in play. Why cut the dividend before putting the company up for sale? Buyers pay a premium over the stock market price to get a company. So if they kept the dividend it is likely any buyer would have to pay a premium on what would have been a much higher dividend supported price. Your comments please and thanks.

Q: Hi there, looks like Eric Sprott is boosting his stake in KRR (formerly RNX), any further thoughts?
Peter, you were involved with Eric Sprott and know him quite well, can you provide any thinking that goes on with his methodology when it comes to investing even more money in a small cap (producing mines) gold company as he just did with KRR?
Can you please confirm if this is the highest he's paid for KRR/RNX shares?
I believe KRR is setting itself up really nicely, with tailwinds helping it start a new run in share price, again! your thoughts would be appreciated?
Just curious, what would KRR need to do (check off list if possible) in order for you to ever consider this small cap gold stock to be included in the 5i Growth Portfolio? Gold seems to be finally proving itself, as an investment, now that its holding above $1800, with possible new all time highs.
Any additional metrics, ratios or analysis for KRR would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Thanks!

Q: The above company has come to my attention lately. They appear to have developed a drug NURTEC ODT for pain relief, migraine particularly. I believe the drone just received approval. They are also investors in Kleo Pharmaceuticals working on a Drug for the treatment of COVID-19. I believe Bill and Melinda Gates have just put in 5 million to the same company. I’m just wondering if you were aware of the company and if you are do you have any thoughts about it?

I found this interesting article in Yesterdays Globe and Mail

Q: Thank you for your earlier response to my question on DocuSign.

As a timely follow-up, there's now news of a partnership between Microsoft and Citrix, whom you described as DocuSign's main competitor. Can you comment on this partnership and how you think this may affect DocuSign? Thanks again.

Q: I have $40K in RESP with 8-9 years horizon. the money is presently divided equally between Canadian index fund, US Index Fund, International Index Fund and Canadian Government Bond Index Fund.

Any suggestions on how to improve returns? Should i change strategy or simply continue to add to the same index funds? OR sell and invest in individual stocks (if so which one) or choose more risky ETFs?

Thanks in advance

Q: Good morning team,

In a bit of a portfolio cleanup in my TFSA yesterday I sold some laggards and reduced my Shopify shares to bring it more in line with my targeted weighting. After completing Norbert's Gambit, I will be deploying the funds to buy US stocks. Please share your 2 or 3 favourite growth stocks for 5+ year hold in each of the following categories: Health Care, Communication Services, and other non-Tech (if you have more compelling options than those listed in Health and Comm Service).

Thanks in advance,
Rory

Q: Hello Wonderful Folks at 5i!
I am just wondering what your thoughts are on the fundamentals and business going forward of this company? Would you consider it a buy for a 2-3 year hold? And would you place it along side (or in the same room) as companies such as Moderno and Innoviva?
Thanks for all you do, your service and the education you provide is unparalleled!

Q: Hello
BMO.PR.C jumped today 8%. All other preferred shares jumped around 2-3%. CPD around 2.5%.

Do you know why BMO.PR.C jumped so much (8%). The volume of BMO.PR.C also jumped at 83,000 shares compare to the daily average of around 5,000. I own these shares and I would like to know if there is an explanation?
Thanks

Q: good morning - the bulk of my fixed income assets are in the form of preferred shares which i would very much like to move away from, although I will take a pounding in the values. My prefs pay in the 5% range and I'm wondering what your take is on replacing them say with canadian banks which are also paying roughly the same in dividends at their current prices. I am already overweight in banks and utilities but wonder what the true risks are for a long term holder. I have read several times that holding the banks over an extended period usually outperforms the canadian index. I know the difference between common and prefs, from a legal perspective, and understand that commons can suffer from downdrafts. However, all my prefs have performed so poorly and the future seems so bleak for them that i would like to get rid of them. What advice can you offer me, please. As always, thank you.
