I am in the process of having my portfolio mirror the 5i Model Portfolio. I currently own Tricon Capital, would it be considered a good substitute for Home Capital Group or would you recommend making the switch? Which one currently has the higher upside potential? The portfolio is held in RRSP/TSFA accounts.
On January 19th you suggested the following US stocks(UTX, SBUX, GOOG, ULTI, CALM, DIS, JNJ, LMT, SIMO, EBIX.) to "Stephen" who was looking to deploy some US cash, and looking for "reasonable risk, decent growth and some divided," Do those still look good to you as I'm looking to add some US exposure in the next couple weeks to compliment my Canadian holdings which follow your Balanced Portfolio.
Having just read CBC's article about electricity and with electric car sales growing, could you suggest the names of companies that provide transformers and other equipment to electricity providers? Are there any companies you would recommend that would benefit from the growth of the electric car industry? Thanks.

Q: Hi there, can you recommend your top 5 companies with good prospects that currently have no analyst coverage (excluding 5i). Also, please briefly explain why you like them. Thanks!
I am curious about SIS. I have no doubt that there will be a bigger demand for these types of services and products in the future. What I am concerned about is potential competition. Who is their main competition?? What is the market share of this sector that SIS has?? What gives this company that moat to defend their market share?? I am also wondering what is the ROE of the company?? I was also curious, do they have a type of franchise system for distribution or are the dealers of the products directly owned by the company? Do they build the elevator and lift systems in China, I noticed the CEO mentioned they had people in China I expect that is to over see manufacturing of components for their lift equipment. Finally what is your opinion of the Management ( I watched a few videos on the guy, he seems Ok)???
Q: Regarding the much anticipated new portfolio picks: I am not looking to put words in your mouth, but is part of your thinking here related to the periodic tendency of the market to swoon/ re-trench around this time of year ..... commonly phrased as "Sell in May and Go Away." .... except you will add a new wrinkle to it and step in when others are abandoning stocks at attractive "buy" prices?
I currently hold a position in MAL and am considering switching into CAE. What are the main advantages and disadvantages of the future prospects for these two businesses?
What are the executives (not self-serving analyists!) at CAE forecasting for earnings growth and cash flow over the next year?
I see from previous Q&A that 5i has noted that CAE has been profitable every year since 1991. Do you think the market cap of this company reflects their long term financial performance?
Would the CAE track record and future outlook be compelling to add to the 5i balanced portfolio? Why or why not? If not, what does this company have to do to merit inclusion in such a portfolio?
Many thanks for your insights and opinions 5i team !
Q: On March 16/2016 most of the senior management dumped a large portion of their shares. Otherwise, low daily trading & a lousy name compared to Easy Home! what's your thoughts? Sell or hold.
Q: If the deal to purchase Canexus does not go through, what effect would this have on the current price of Superior? Also would the dividend be sustainable going forward?
Q: I have made over 100% on this one and recently it has really surged. I started with a 5% position and it has quickly jumped to over a 10% position. I usually sell too soon but this time I am reluctant to sell when it is climbing so fast, and I think this is at least a 5 year holding.
Q: Can you comment on recent issue of 5% debenture by Kelt. They issued more shares earlier this year and now a debenture. Can they survive the downturn in oil prices without further financing?
Q: Hi Peter, I need to take some profit off the table. I am up on these names. Can you please suggest which of these I can sell now among these 3?
OTC
BCI
PLI
I meant which of these among 3, does not have a huge catalyst in short term and more riskier?
