Q: I am reviewing my sector allocation and depending on how I place TRP , ENB, FTS and IPL, I can have up to 14.6 % of Equities or ~5% of Equities in Energy. Can you comment on the following and tell me if they are all in the Energy sector in your opinion : CNQ ( 2%), ENB(3%), FTS(3%),IPL(1%), SU(2%), and TRP(3.5%).

Q: S&P,DOW & NQ are up between 7% to 9% YTD after huge advances in 2017.But the TSX is up less than 1% YTD after 5.5% in 2017.A shameful display,being one of the worst performer in the world in 2017.Thank goodness for the consistently good results of 5I year after year since inception in 3/13.So I need your expertise here again.Please advise 1) BEPORTa)Best 5 overall & b) best 10,one from each sector. 2)GROWTH a)Best 5 overall & b)best 10,one from each sector. Q: I am rebalancing my portfolios which include two nonregistered accounts (1 Cdn $ and 1 US $), a TFSA and an RRSP. I am 70 years old and collecting both CPP and OAS and some of my OAS is clawed back each year. Do you have a chart showing what is the best suited for each of these accounts. So for example are my dividend accounts best to be held in just my RRSP or perhaps in my TFSA as well? What about growth or value stocks, bonds, interest income or EFTs – where do they best belong?

Q: Do not chuckle at my ignorance here please, but my question here is on ETF and Mutual Fund fees bought in self directed brokerage portfolios. If a posted managed fee (ie 1.5%) where does that withdraw fee show up and is it taken our annually or monthly? I never see a charge on my monthly statements for the etf management fees. How are they calculated, on the purchase price or a share value on a set date? Thanks

Q: Hi 5i,

Just joined your group and so far I am liking the website and the sections. I like to invest in small to mid cap companies (currently have bbi and pmn in my portfolio). Looking to add 2-3 more over the next few weeks. Any suggestions that I can have so I look into their company? I do like PTE a bit since it dropped so much.

Q: In the response to a question on Jan 17th, you said that EFN was buying back shares. I can't see anything like this on Canadian Insider except back in September. Did you mean ECN? I'm down around 40% over the last year and you keep saying to hold. As of today, would you still hold? This one is very frustrating.

Q: Hi 5i.

I've owned BCE (-6%) and T (+9%) for ~ 18 months -not including dividends. I'm patient, but tired of BCE losing money, plodding along. Comparing CMCSA (Comcast) (4.8), BCE (3.3), T (3.8), RCI.B (4.0) Morningstar Broker Analyst Recommendation ratings, there's a clear winner: CMCSA (USA) (up +377% over last 10 years). When I plot these 4 Financial stocks over 10-years, the others are hardly visible on the graph.

Why not move my $35K (RRSP) from BCE to CMCSA, leaving T? Risk?

Q: I currently have a full position in BNS & 1/3 in LB, can you recommend some foreign banks that I could buy on the NYSE that you feel are more undervalued than their North American counterparts and may offer good equity growth. Risk is not a huge concern but if you could outline that as well for any recommendations that would be great and if you feel taking a position would be ok. I understand this isn't 5i's focus but any suggestions would be appreciated.

Q: Hello Peter,
It is a bit sad that shareholders of Canadian energy companies are not able to take advantage of the increase in oil prices as the stocks have hardly moved. I am assuming it is due to the restrictions on pipeline capacity. However, why are Enbridge and Transcanada down? I understand they are impacted by oil prices, but I am surprised at the reaction to their stock prices (downward). Comments please. Thanks very much.

Q: I own about 70% of the growth portfolio and the balanced portfolio at about 30%. The momentum for those 2 companies is certainly positive, I want to get a full position on one of the two mentioned above for 2 or 3 yrs. which one would you suggest today?
