Q: I’m confused why short seller analysts are allowed to manipulate stock prices for their own benefit. What’s the difference between an influential short seller shorting a stock and than manipulating the price with a bad report and a ceo buying or selling stock before an earnings report?

Q: with all the energy trouble in alberta, is it time to sell or hold D.un thanks jim
Q: I typically use ETF's rather than trying to pick the right stock. I notice that there are comments about ETF's in the questions section but I have not been able to find ETF Portfolios for various investment strategies, such as Income, conservative, growth, aggressive, Cnanda, USA, World and so on. Have I been missing something?
Q: Due to 5 I's comments on management and the rising payout ratio I have sold my KWH.UN and plan to replace it with one of the following options. In a portfolio currently containing 16 stocks and ETF's. Going to replace it with either BEP.UN or NFI or both. Which would you suggest ? 2.75 % in each or 5.5 % in one ? I am leaning toward BEP'UN if one but would like 5I's opinion. I could also go 5.5 % in each as there is surplus cash. { 17% }

10% in a short term bond (RRSP)
50% in XUS (Registered)
25% in HXS (TFSA)
15% in my Non Registered Account (HXT).
Is it time to move to a more definsive strategy. I am thinking of shiftin about 30 % in the likes of BCE and another 20% to short term bonds. Would you be ok with this?
Thanks

Q: I got in at 14.00 a share should I buy more hold or sell thanks
Q: I assume ALA spun out ACI to reduce debt. Given the positive recommendations on ACI while ALA shares continue to decline, it appears to be short gain for long term pain. Thus, I am confused as to why ALA did this. Also, with ALA in the doldrums, would it make sense to take my loss in ALA and buy ACI? Or should I stick with ALA for greater rebound potential?
Q: Can you comment on effect of the Alberta cut and surplus of oil on the pipelines ie IPL
Q: Hi 5i!
This more of a financial planning question than an investing question.
I recently read the book "Retirement Income For Life". It talks about delaying taking CPP until 70 to maximize the amount received. This is achieved by drawing down RSPs from retirement to 70 and taking 1/3 of your retirement funds and buying an annuity. The annuity pays income for life and the larger CPP payment will last for life also. The goal is to not outlive your money in retirement. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this strategy.
Thank you for your insight!

Q: With the recent market correction, I have several stocks that are down quite significantly and others that stayed flat or went up a little. This involves that the weightings changed quite a bit for some stocks. I know 5i isn't a big fan of averaging down, but in such context what would be your advice? I have the followings (%loss, weight) :
SIS (-19%, 4%)
PHO(-41%, 1.7%)
KXS(-10%, 3.3%)
NFI(-32%, 2.6%)
PBH(-28%, 3.4%)
TOY(-23%, 2.5%)
MX(-22%, 3.1%)
I currently have 13% cash and would consider reducing it to 7-8%. My sectors are well diversified. Which of the above would be your favorites today for a position increase?

Q: Hi, my question is does i5Research have any insight as to why preferred shares have drastically declined in price during November and is there any hope that this trend will reverse. My already underwater collection of Enbridge and bank preferred shares have decreased 7% in value since the start of November. My collection of preferreds are rate reset, resetting in 2019 and where issued with a 3.8% to 4.4% yield. Thanks … Cal
Q: Now what is your opinion for long term or even trading?Any stock worth buying?.
Q: Well, pardon the pun, is it time to exit a gas play? Both my PEY, especially, and TOU are down big.
Or should I roll them into something else in the same space?
Long term investor.
Thanks for the wonderful service.

Q: Hi 5i, Seasons Greetings. I generally am a buy and hold type but could use some tax losses against earlier gains this year. The above mentioned stocks could be sold and repurchased in early January. Would that be prudent? Is there anything I should not repurchase? Thanks, Ted
Q: I am considering purchasing ECN preferred for the great yield. Can you explain the difference between ECN.PR.A and ECN.PR.C. I can see the yield from a stock quote but can't figure how the dividend is calculated or when the rate resets on either of these. Which of the two if any would you recommend?
Thanks
Thanks
Q: Were you able to learn more about sudden departure of CEO?
Q: When I asked about this company in August 2017 (to date I am the only member to ever ask about this company) you were neutral/ambivalent to it as a good investment. YTD the SP up 24% and the dividend, despite the rising share price, is now above a 6.5% annual return. Still neutral?
