Q: Hey guys, great service. I've been slowly building the balanced portfolio and have some cash. It seems like a good time to buy. The four stocks I'm missing are MG, DSG, CXI and ESL. Which do you think is the best buy today? Thanks.

Q: General Comment:
For information of other members. Here is an interesting article with a few clues as to what to look for when the market might be at a bottom. Its from a UK investment newsletter but the principles are essentially the same for North American markets.

Q: If holding for the long term, does it make more sense (taxes) to have these stocks in a RSP instead of a cash account?

Q: Why such huge swings in the oil stocks. Is it institutional investors buying large lots and buying and selling to make quick money? But someone is buying expecting to sell at a higher price. Every time crew goes up I think I should sell and then Ibdon't just to see it fall again. It is so confusing. There is an oil rout so why are these things moving up?

Q: My current financial sector weighting is 10% . Do you feel this is a good time to look at increasing it - up to 13-15%, perhaps.
If so, my current holdings are BNS,CXI,EFN,GS,SLF,TCN & CDZ. (very small positions in CXI, TCN & CDZ). I have room in both my TFSA & SDRSP. Would appreciate your thoughts on what current holdings, if any, I might increase,(and/or eliminate) Or, if there are new names you would consider adding ?

Q: Gifted $41000.00 to my daughter for a new TFSA. Based on the current market, I would appreciate your pics for 2 or possibly 3 growth stocks(with or without dividends) as I plan on controlling this investment for 5 years after which time she can do what she wants! As always, appreciate you expertize.
Q: Don't see much Q/A on Airline companies. Would have thought they would be getting a boost to the bottom line in 2016 due to the low (and going lower) cost of oil. WJA share price looks pretty beat up right now. Can you come up with any negatives on this stock?
Q: Hello,
Could I please get your opinion on Transforce vs Trimac. When Contrans was sold I purchased a small part position in each TFI and TMA. Both are down approx 30% and each represent about 1- 1.5% of my portfolio. I am debating on selling one of them for a loss and adding to the other. Which one if any would keep and why? Or should I average down on both or one of them? I can hold long term if needed.
Thanks for your help,
Kerri

Q: Peter & Team, I have held both stocks for a long time and done very well, but they are down sharply in January. The US rails (CSX & UNP recently reported) are doing really badly with freight volumes in decline like recession levels (as was the case last quarter). But CN, counter trend, put in a great result last quarter and First Call earnings outlooks suggest CNR will way outperform the major US rails again. Do you think this will continue and why has CNR been beating the US rails? As for SJ, I assume it is off sharply because of the decline in US rail business. CNR and SJ are both cyclical and in this economic environment, should they be held or sold?
Q: I am interested in ARE, STN, WSP and SNC as potential beneficiaries of federal infrastructure spending but am wondering how much of these company's current business is associated with the energy industry. Do you have an estimate of this for each of these 4 companies.
Thank You
Thank You
Q: Good morning. With provincial and federal health ministers strategizing to lower pharmaceutical costs for Canadians, what do you think will be the impact on Jean-Coutu? Is it likely or even certain that a Pan-Canadian bulk-buying program for drugs will open Jean-Coutu's sales to more provinces and increase the volume of generic drugs Jean-Coutu sells? Thanks for your excellent advice.
Here is a quote from the CBC article posted Jan 21:
The group will build on the work of the provinces' bulk-buying program, the Pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance, which saves money by negotiating large contracts with pharmaceutical companies.
"Even with that work, prescription drugs are still too expensive in this country," said B.C. Health Minister Terry Lake.
