Q: I am thinking of adding to National Health Investors Inc NHI, its a REIT in the healthcare sector. Others I like are Ventas Inc VTR and Welltower Inc HCN. Which would be your favorite and is NHI a good buy.

Q: Good day...Your service and advise has done us well for our tenure with 5i...my question is we have 1600 shares of SIS that is house money at ACB of $6.06 does it make sense to add to this stock or better to hold as is....we have taken profits all along and invested in other balanced stocks and it now represents about a 2% of our total portfolio ...we have the cash to add to this but do not think it makes sense as we gain about 3 times at current ACB...thanks for helping...gene

Q: In the absence of fraud, if a company is trading under tangible book value and it goes bankrupt should the common equity holder get the tangible book value of his/her shares? I say this because I have been in this position before and got nothing with no explanation provided by my broker. As it was a small position and I am not a big player with armies of lawyers I couldn't take it further.

Q: You've liked Descartes in the past and have said it's a good company, but have tended to prefer other tech stocks such as Open Text, primarily because of the valuation of Descartes I believe. I'm wondering what has changed in the last month that you've started to make it as a top pick. Is it simply the 10% approx. pullback after last quarter? Are there any other changes that have occurred that have impacted this decision also? Thanks for your comments.

Q: I am wondering on your thoughts of holding physical metals.I own a few maple leaf gold coins and am contemplating buying some platinum and palladium maple leafs as a small part of holdings.

Q: These stocks are held in my RRSP . Have had them for several years. Last year they were down and wondering if it's time to move on. I'm a buy and hold investor. Thanks for great service.

Q: I own BOS in my TFSA and am down 20%. Given that I can not claim a loss, am I better off holding it and waiting for them to get back on track or selling and moving on? I have a well diversified portfolio and within the Consumer Cyclical sector where BOS resides, I own a full position in MG, TOY and half positions in NFI, CCLb, TSGI, GC, PTE and XTC (but open to others ...DOO?). Your guidance is much appreciated.

Q: Which of the balanced equity industrials would you add now. I own WSP already but no others. If have cash for 1 full position or could do part position in a few of them.

Q: You have mentioned in the past that KXS has lots of cash. One assumes this means "in relation to" some other factor, as other companies have larger cash holdings. Please outline what you are using as a base for this ratio so I can use this metric when evaluating my other holdings (mostly those recommended by 5i).

Q: This company was recommended by Eddy Elfenbein a few years ago as part of his Buy List. He dropped it this year because he felt that it had become too expensive. I am a buy and hold investor and know that your strategy is to hang on to winners (as long as nothing changes within the company) while maintaining a balanced portfolio.
My question is, is there a time to sell a winner even if nothing has seemingly changed in the company? HEI has grown for several years, had 2 partial stock splits and raised its dividend in the past year, its CEO was executive of the year and it is in an industry (aerospace and electronics) that would seem to still be growing. Other than its debt level increasing somewhat I see little wrong here., although I am not a strong analytical type. While I don't expect 30% plus growth annually, it would seem to still have some oomph left in it. Or has it possibly run its course?

Q: Can some of enbridge weakness be attrituted to new technology being developed to carry bitumen from the oilsands in a safer more solid form by railcar? CN apparently has a patent on the technology? Thx
