Q: I have owned JPM, TD and BNS for a few years. The thinking was it would enable me to spread my investments outside of Canada. Given the lacklustre performance of JPM and the fact that TD has significant US assets and BNS is international, I am thinking of swapping JPM for VISA (or MC if you think that is better) to get financial assets that may act just a bit differently than the banks. Does this thesis make sense?
Appreciate your insight.

Q: Hi 5i, I need some guidance, I need to sell some of my stocks.
In my cash account I have 25 stocks , 15 of them are doing OK (some are doing great), and around 10 are in the red (with 3 or 4 bad -at least temporarily ) , the question is, would you sell the top ones, would you shave off some from the top stocks, would you sell the ones that are not doing so well. I understand your respond would be a suggestion only. I'm inclined to shave from my top gainers and sell the bottom ones.
Thanks

Q: Hello, 5i's sector classification for NFI is Industrials. However, when I look at either the TSX classification or the Company profile (5i Research) or Yahoo Finance, etc., all of these put NFI as Consumer Cyclical. I understand it could be difficult to classify, in that case would you advise to defer to the TSX classification? Thanks, Gervais

Q: I am a holder of Evertz. Just released a record Q , net earnings earning up 50% and they purchased a small tech company. Do you see the share price climbing or will investors need to see more? Also in context of current valuation.
Q: I completely understand your support for Johnathan Goodman at Knight as his history is beyond impressive. However, I think Mr. Jakobsohn's proposal asks some significant questions that, as a shareholder, I would like to hear answers for. It does make me uncomfortable that his family company got involved in four deals and he will benefit more than if he had Knight involved. That seems like a legitimate concern as is the puny revenues generated in four years since Knight's launch. Conversely, Knight provided Medisen the opportunity to thrive and succeed and it is not the first time I have seen beneficiaries conveniently forget who helped them become successful once they have achieved momentum and no longer need their benefactor.
Ultimately, I do hope this exercise will help Goodman see some valid points in Jakobsohn's presentation and diversify his board and spend some cash. The articles that have appeared about Goodman detail his bargaining savvy but who would want to deal with him when it is public knowledge he has a desire to buy for nothing... I wish he would forget about his famous "grandchildren" analogy and show the investors who have supported his financings and bought the stock at $10 plus that he can still discover companies with potential and make mutually beneficial deals so Knight can thrive and grow.
I doubt Jakobsohn's proposal will go anywhere but perhaps it will reinforce to Goodman that his approach could be a little more "in the present" to his many investors/supporters.
I have a bad case of FOMO when it comes to Knight. If I liquidate part or all of my shares, I stress about Goodman making a blockbuster deal the next day!!
Would you agree with anything I have said and please provide an opinion on any value in the dissenting proposal.
Thanks.

Q: Time for tax loss selling? How much chance is there of this stock going higher in a month? Related to this is , at this point, is there any sense in tax loss selling right now, rather than holding until the end of they year, collect the dividend and then sell, if it is still down.
thanks
thanks
Q: Although securities are " held in segregation ", what specifically ensures that beneficial shareholders (non-registered ) are protected from a legal( registered) holder's liquidity issue ? My question relates to the possibility, not the probability of a liquidity issue . The question relates to large portfolios which are well beyond the scope of the CIPF protection . As an aside , I would note that , contrary to conventional wisdom , Canadian banks , although much stronger than many others around the world, are not really " well capitalized " . They meet and exceed very weak regulatory standards and regularly pass related stress tests . Over leveraging produces very good returns on too little capital . An informed analysis of all of our major banks balance sheets should raise the issue of possible risk associated with weak regulatory standards regarding capitalization .
