Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: 5i has recommended all companies listed above. Many of your members have expressed concern over each of these companies. As soon as the onslaught begins you have defended all of them. COV is the latest stock - I don't understand your position. You appear to be growth and momentum oriented and get in well after the easy money has been made. You tend to want to stay in all sectors regardless of the climate. Why are we in Canadian health care? GUD is nightmare, RHT was a pump and dump and now COV. These are trades not investments. I have 25 Canadian stocks 10 of which are 5i all double digit losses wiping out any gains on the remaining stocks most of which are not 5i selections. Please remind us what is 5i again and why are we here?

Q: I agree that Trevali needs to show consistency in earnings but having beet expectations last quarter, and with a strong balance sheet, could investors show frustration and pushing the stock price to a yer low?How do you see zinc prices in the neat 24 months and would this be a good time to buy an undervalued overly "punished" stock?
Many thanks,
Jean C.

Q: TV announced they are releasing 1st quarter results May 6th, with a warning " annual zinc treatment charges (“TC”) have increased significantly since the Company’s 2019 cost guidance was set, resulting in increased off-site costs at Trevali’s operations.
They also have appointed a new President and CEO, how do you see these affecting the share price? Thanks for your insights...

Q: With the guiding lights of 5iResearch, my portfolio value has reached all time high. I would like to express my deep gratitude to Mr.Hodson and his team for the great service, knowledge, education and support.
I am a DIY concentrated, unbalanced, buy and hold investor. Not all of my holding stocks fared so well and contemplate a Spring Weed Out. My losing stocks are namely TSGI (-47%, 2% of portfolio), TCL.a (-45%, 0.6%), IQ (-30%, 0.4%), PHO (-25%, 1.1%), COV (-13.5%, 1%), GUD (-7.4%, 2.5%), TOY (-5.1%, 4.5%), NFI (-4.6% 0.5%), and TV (-68%, 0.01%). Please kindly advise if any of the above holdings require chopping or double down and rank them in priority ? Please deduct deduct my question credits as you see fit. Thank you very much.

Q: Recently TV was eliminated from the growth portfolio. I still have a full position in a registered account. Based on the recent sell off and current valuation do you think it is still a sell ? Is the valuation so cheap that it is now at least a hold ? The sell off seems over done. Your advice is always appreciated.

Q: On Oct 15 the 5i team declares that its time to sell it full position in Trevali out of one of the virtual model portfolios, when it is selling in the low .70 cent level. In his most recent appearance on BNN Market Call about a month(?) ago, Peter suggested against selling in the low .70 cent level because it is at too low a price and this would be an inopportune time to sell - implying there is better value to be had for a patient investor. Then on Oct 5, the 5i team says Trevali is still worth holding on to, but on a "short leash". Talk about mixed messages!

As a 5i subscriber, I would prefer if your team would ramp up your collective wisdom and signal sell well before a security hits a major trough. You have done similar patterns re securities such as Air Boss, ZCL and the infamous Concordia Health Care fiasco, (now recently revived by virtue of a 1 for 300 reverse split!). I am guessing that since your model portfolios do not involve any of your own real money, you tend not to pull the trigger on sell signals. But your subscribers are self-managing their own real money. We need your timely recommendations for sells - not wait for a "throw in the towel" attitude to prevail among the team before announcing selling a full position. For most of us, the sell decision is the most difficult, and courageous timely clear sell signal recommendations especially for model portfolio positions holdings would be very much appreciated going forward! Would 5i consider this request and respond? Thank you. Comments?...

Q: of all the companies listed, I currently have the same percentage of holding that is in the 5i portfolio. Which of these stocks would you be comfortable buying today and making it a 4-5 % holding as I have some cash and would like to average down. I am a young investor with a long horizon as these stocks are all in my RRSP.

Thanks

Q: I have been considering a small position in TV at around the present price. I hesitate though, after reading what is perhaps frustration with this stock's last 8 quarters and the company's management as well.
Could you provide some clarity. No matter the market or the business, nothing can destroy potential like management .

Thank You
