Q: After a massive price decline over the past year, the projected earnings for this stock are now stable. Despite its high debt and the downturn in oil prices, it seems that several analysts rate the stock a buy. How do you rate TPH ? What would be a buy signal ?

Q: At $20 Crescent Point seems pretty beaten up. Even given the dividend and oil price risk do you view it as a pretty solid buy right now?

Q: Hello Peter,
I know this question is an apples to orange comparison (different sectors), but I was wondering if you can shed some light. I sold my holdings in Valeant as it has done very well. I am thinking of putting the proceeds to Patient Home Monitoring and Auto Canada for long term hold. Does this make sense to you? Thanks very much.

Q: With the continued discussion in the financial media about a recession or not a recession in Canada and a Bank of Canada governor who at any opportunity talks down the CAD and does whatever to lower it, this has certainly heightened the negative sentiment on everything Canadian. Is the time yet here that the risk/return ratio for investing in energy and or pipeline stocks now favourable and would a company like BNP with a healthy dividend and good management be a decent investment?

Q: Can I have your opinion on this fund which focuses on increasing dividends of companies with solid balance sheets. Would this be appropriate for a registered account which I shall not need to touch for about 5 years?

Thanks

Q: What do you think about Cinemark?

Compared to CGX trading at 35X trailing earnings CNK (23X)is a lot cheaper and should be able to grow faster in its markets and do more acquisitions.

I'm thinking about adding some on this pull back and before Q2 earnings are released which should be a record (Furious 7 and Jurassic World)

Q: Hi 5i: Many thanks for the opinion on PANW and for the suggestion re FEYE. One problem I have with many high flying new companies is that most of the usual fundamental ratios are either negative or do not exist. What measures and/or ratios do you look at to assess the prospects of such companies? Thanks again.

Q: Hello Peter and Co.:
If you were to suggest one oil stock to buy today for a 2-3 year hold what would it be? I'm looking at VET or WCP but maybe you like a different one.
My only other energy holding right now apart from IPL and PPL (utilities?), is PEY, which I intend to hold onto and possibly add to at these levels.
I could be wrong, but I can't see there's much downside to Canadian energy companies right now. Getting paid around 6% to wait a year or so for the recovery seems like a pretty good deal to me.
Buy low and sell high is the thing to do, we all know that, but actually DOING it is extremely hard because it feels like the completely wrong thing to do! In my limited experience managing my investments, it seems that doing the complete opposite of what feels good generally leads to success...

Would love your take on this.

Thanks for all your excellent advice over the past couple of years.

Q: Thank you very much for what you did for me until now! I love you guys!!
I have a position in CFX and I saw that they give an extra dividend or $1.12 which represents almost all the cash company has on balance sheet. The stock dropped ~5% in 2 days. What could be the reason for it? The company seems to do the right things, stock holder friendly.....
Thank you

Q: Hi, I've owned this awhile, but I seem to be getting no "pop' due to the rising USD vs CAD. Is it hedged against a rise in the USD? What I was wanting when I bought this, was US Large Cap Div exposure with a USD exposure vs CAD. Can you recommend another US index fund that would participate in the continued CAD decline?
