Q: Could you please comment on ALA.s press release of Sep 26 on their proposed purchase of 50 % of Black swan for $230 million. I was under the impression that ALA was looking to sell non core assets in an effort to reduce dept.

Q: Hello,
I am confused by spb’s decision to sell equity into the market at market prices, over a period of time. Doesn’t this put a ceiling on the stock? And in fact help drive the price lower? Would seem to be a shorter’s dream.
Regards,
Robert

Q: what gives...down14% today....potential share delusion; the reason?
Q: Gentlemen,
I own RHT (now 0.55%, -19%) on margin account.
I own COV (1%, +50%) GUD (1%, -8%), and 2 US ETF, IBB 1%, XBI 1%, on others none margin accounts.
I have cash (1.5%) to add to the HC sector.
Selling RHT, I will have 2% cash to buy.
I want to buy one US growth stock on H.C space.
Which one you suggest today.
Thanks

Q: What are your two picks for a CDN ETF and two picks for a US ETF that covers financials, industrials, resources (and maybe healthcare?) for a very long term hold?
Q: In the answer to question asked by Richard you state that the 2019 EPS for SIS 2019 is 83 cents.
The company recently announced an estimate of $60M earnings for 2019 with less tha $50M shares outstanding, which is obviously a higher EPS than your est. Is this because the company is referring to EBITDA and you are referring to net earnings?
When we are shown the forward EPS on Morningstar etc..., are they referring to EBITDA or net earnings? Is it really only net earnings that matter? Please explain.
Thanks
John

Q: Some ETFs pay a yield that is not supported only by the combined dividend yield of the holdings. FIE is one example. What contributes to an ETF payout?
Q: TFSA and US listed stocks. Recently you recommended SPY a NYSE stock and various other US listed stocks for a TFSA. Is it not true that US listed stocks are not tax exempt? That there is a withholding tax on dividends? An example would be HOT.UN . XSP is in CDN funds and therefore not subject to tax in a TFSA?
Thanks for clarification if I am wrong.

Q: Like other Semis , SWKS has seen high price volatility in the past year. I hold other Semiconductor companies (foundries) in both taxable and non-taxable accounts. Would appreciate your insight with substance, including for example on:
1. Is SWKS more vulnerable to trade tariff tensions between the China and the US?
2. Does it have a wide enough moat? Wider than most others in the semiconductor ‘space’ ?
3. Does it have valuable patents e.g. in 5G or is it just as vulnerable as Micron has been to intellectual property theft by other countries?
4. Would you continue to hold?

Q: I have had LQD for about 2 years and down 5%. I think I would be better of with a GIC. Thoughts?
Q: Good day 5i,
Please may I have your assessment of this company, it’s fundamentals and thoughts on its current low stock price. Is the rate of insider selling here of any reasonable concern? I am also looking at this for a small portfolio position as speculation on possibility of Amazon deciding on DC as its HQ2 locale.
Cheers,
Tim

Q: I have a question about 2672 what is your opinion about this stock now. thanks bill
Q: Hi team,
I just read your reply to Murray on activity in a TFSA and potential CRA thresholds. It causes me some concern. I do most of my trading in my TFSA to maximize my tax-free growth. I am not even close to $500,000 but typically average more than 5 trades per week. My style is to add and trim positions in stocks based on momentum and growth outlook. So, I trim off some of one stock to add a bit more of another. I don’t consider myself a day trader, where someone buys a penny stock or pot stock in the morning and flips it in the afternoon. I am into big cap stocks and do most trading in U.S. tech names (not that it matters). I read various articles that CRA interest would only be triggered by much more trading than 5 per week. So, I have two questions. Is the 5 per week threshold just your personal view or have you seen some evidence of that? Secondly, there must be millions of TFSAs in Canada. How would CRA have access to trading activity?
Thanks again,
dave

Q: I have 300 shares of PBH since Nov.2016 ,bought at $68.65.
PBH is 3.5% of my portfolio. I am thinking of buying now more of PBH
to make it around 5% of my portfolio.
Is this good time to buy it now on its way down or should I wait for going more down or rebound of PBH up.

Q: Hello,
Long time holder of PKI and SPB. In the past I have watched PKI bounce around and jump up in price and then back down because earnings were weather related (good or bad) and/or input related (ie. contract spreads). Now with the recent price increase (very happy) is it because of their move into convenience stores or is their underlying profit seen to be more "permanent" than "transitory"? Does SPB carry similar characteristics as PKI so that under the right circumstances, they could see a large price increase as well?
Thanks,
Robert
